R-Day Report Time

In the past, what time has report time typically been on R-Day? Depending on how early it is, I am trying to figure out whether I should book a close-by hotel room or not. I have a family friend who lives an hour away from campus and can provide my family transportation and a place to stay, so I am trying to decide between the two options. If it's too early, I am worried about showing up on time from an hour away, especially with a family (including kids). I appreciate any advice on this matter. Thanks!
 
WP staggers the times by last name aphetically or company. For example, A through C, time 6:00 am. After the first group everyone else will want to get a head start and will form a line. After you stand in line for 20 to 30 min at Ike Hall you’ll be lead in for a 10 min briefing then you say your “good luck”.


Getting through the gate was the bottle neck.


You will want to give yourself about 30 to 45 min to get through the gates and park your car. There will be buses to shuttle you from the parking lots to Ike Hall and back. About 5:30 of 6:00 the Cadet Candidates will be displayed on the field, which last for about 15 to 20 min.


The A-Day parade in my opinion is well worth the family attendance. The whole Corps of Cadets will march on and will accept the new Plebes into the Corps. It’s rather emotional to see the field filled with dressed cadets.


Please enjoy yourself. Be prepared for the weather, it could be rainy, or hot and humid. And take snacks for your party.

Your DS or DD may get real snippy, short and/or throw an attitude short at you the day before and the day of A-Day. Don't take it personally, they are nervous, worried, scared, stressed about their new adventures.
 
MIgeek - aren't you a soldier? You'll be coming in to report prior to everyone else, like Friday prior to R-day. You'll start R-day in ACUs and be in one of the first waves of new cadet to go through early in the morning.
 
Did report process change since 2008? Back then, you were assigned a time based on last digit of your SS# (unless you are a prior, of course).

That's what I remembered, mom3boys, the last number of the SSN. We didn't learn his company until later in the day. And I definitely remember it wasn't alphabetical.

That was the process last year (report time based on last digit of SS#). But, if you showed up early they ushered you into Ike Hall and started the process. Heard some parents were taken aback when they showed up early, then were led into the auditorium; they thought they would have more time with their new cadet and instead were given the 60 second good-bye.

I don't suggest those with later report times show up too early (ie 2 hrs before your assigned time). Everyone will eventually be processed and go through the same things. Understandably some new cadets are anxious to get started -- but it is a very long day for both new cadets and parents/family members ... especially if this year's R-Day is as hot and humid as last year's. (Then it rained for a good hour before the scheduled parade review, with anxious parents waiting to hear if they would even get to see their new cadet.)

Last year's schedule was: SS#'s ending in 0, 1, 2 or 3 report to Ike Hall between 0645 and 0800;
4, 5 or 6 report to Ike Hall between 0800 and 0915;
7, 8 or 9 report to Ike Hall between 0915 and 1030.

No guarantee this year's R-Day report times/process will be the same as last year. Recommend you wait for the memo (last year's memo came out 2 April).

Spot on!! The main thing is R-Day is filled with emotion and excitement. Please enjoy yourself, meet as many families as you can and connect with them on FB.

I'm so excited I wish I could just skip the next few months and head off. I don't know how stressful R-day is going to be but I'm looking forward I it with excitement and some nervousness.

There is a great book for you and your parents to start with before R-Day called hummmmm "The Mums Guide to Surviving West Point". (She couldn't say it, so I did) Don't let the title fool you civic29, there is a great chapter about "Athos" I think you'll find helpful.

And Congrats, all your hard work paid off!!

I've been on it a little bit, going to be a interesting summer this year that's for sure!

In case anyone is looking after Tug_Boat's post, it's "Mom's," not "Mum's." Thanks for the plug! The book is being revised for 2019...not a ton of changes, but a few here and there. West Point changes over time, so books about West Point change, too. ;)
 
Thanks for the information and advice, everybody! 845something, yes I am (I'm impressed that you caught that) and I'm glad you told me that before I booked a hotel room for 28 June. I will wait until the next memo is released before taking any action.
