CIET Cancelled?

I don't know if a thread has already been started about this (I didn't see one), but I just spoke with my DS who is an MS1 AROTC cadet, and he said they were informed by cadre this week that CIET has been cancelled due to lack of funds. Has anyone else heard about this?

They just issued summer training dates today in my battalion, which included Airborne/Air Assault slots, CIET dates, and CLC dates. CIET cadre dates were altered slightly, and cadre positions were also modified (our battalion at least is supposed to send a 50/50 split of male and female cadre members, so a few guys got dropped and girls added), but as far as I could tell CIET is definitely still a thing. I was also informed that next year, CIET cadre is going to be a competitive slot, much like CTLT or Airborne School.

Haven't heard any word about it but to be honest my son is a MS4 so I don't hear much about summer training anymore.

You know with all the changes this year, nothing would surprise me anymore. It would seem odd to cancel a program they have already scheduled dates, notified cadets and released a training plan, but like I said, nothing would come as a surprise.

The S3 for 2nd Brigade just went to our bataillon today to say that CG wanted to sent only MSII..

Let's wait an see

I don't know the reason, but our MSI son also told us that they are not going to CIET. This was after they turned in their list of preferred dates.

Whoever the Battalion decides to send. I know Clarkson will be sending MS 1s and 2s. Your mileage may vary.

My DS, contracted MS1 at an SMC, said they have 50 slots. Not sure who else is going besides contracted MS1's as I know there are not 50 of them! He has already filled out all his paper work that they requested.

To me this sounds like the beginning of what I have heard/read/interpreted. Let me repeat, my own opinion.

Since schools have been over commission for the past several years, they are now "thinning out the herd" by only sending the cadets they see fit to. Only those high enough on their own OML will go. My guess is that contracted/scholarship or not, if you do not attend CIET the summer after your first or second year you could face dis-enrollment form ROTC.

It makes sense, due to the budgets, not to send everyone in the schools program because many are not contracted or on scholarship or passed their APFT.

Again, only my opinion. Do not take this as fact or that I read this specifically someplace.

DS MSI (scholarship) just found out they are looking at sending only MSIIs to CIET. Especially frustrating since he was advised to pull his CULP application for this summer as it would interfere with CIET.

From what Clarkson stated above it seems that it varies from Battalion to Battalion since their's is sending both MS1 and 2's.

Did they have your son request a date for CIET before this latest announcement? I would tell your son to make sure they know he wants to go, especially since they had him pull his CULP application. Couldn't hurt.

Good advice, thanks. Will pass that along. He also applied for AA and AB; hopefully gets some kind of high-speed training this summer!

Sorry, I checked the an acronym list but could not find it, what is CIET and does it apply to all branches of ROTC training? Thanks

Cadet Initial Entry Training

This only applies to Army ROTC, it is training for contracted MS1 and MS2's done over the summer.

My DD - a contracted MS1 on full scholarship just informed us yesterday that only MSII's will be going to CIET from her school this summer. She is doing CULP in May and had already picked her dates for CIET 2 days after her return from Paraguay. She said she's indifferent since she would either have to be gone 2 months this year or 2 months next summer (she wants to do airborne school). But we will be glad to have her home! :)

Same at my school, I am an MSI nursing major so I am going this summer, I imagine other nursing cadets will be attending as well
