At this late date

Getting kind of worried here. At this late date, how many qualified candidates are probably left in the pool to choose from? We realize most BFEs are sent. It's having to sink in probably no chance for DS this year. Just curious how big the pot probably is at this point.

I'm just thinking, but if you're still in it at this late date, it would seem they like what they see, but now it might just be a numbers game. So even if things don't pan out the way you really would like them to you have to know you were a very strong candidate--something to be very proud of! Best of luck to all those still standing.

Mom529, we are in the exact same boat/ship/pool. Blondie1: Thank you for the reminder, these are some amazing young people. I still think of mine as a chubby cheeked toddler, but in reality, he is a man with a bright future ahead... whatever the path he takes to get there.

P.S. Remind me I said this if I have to witness his disappointment.

I am in the exact same boat (no pun intended)! No word from USNA, no word from my MOC's office (they said they'd notify me when they hear something, good or otherwise), and I haven't talked to my BGO in over a month (I sent him an email last week, just to give him an update, but he hasn't responded yet). I'm starting to worry, but, at the same time, I'm hoping that what Blondie1 said is true.
In the meantime, I'm trying to get hype about my plan Bs. As of right now, it looks like I'll be sending a deposit to RPI come May 1, but I still have yet to hear from 13 more colleges (USNA included). My fingers are crossed, as that seems about all I can do at this point!!

DS is in same boat. Two MOC noms (Senate and congressional district who does not use principal system). Did CVW and loved it. In the last two days, the tenor of the posts has started to change. I'm now reading "at this late date..." more frequently. Still hopeful but I can't help but to feel somewhat less optimistic (quietly) than I was two weeks ago. Trying to stay patient. He has good alternatives. (Sigh)

It's the worst, isn't it? I'm in the same boat, no word. The way I see it, they don't want me, but don't not want me either. Like limbo. I personally treat it like being waitlisted for a normal collge. Time to move on, focus on other schools, hope for the best and such.

Stay strong, for someone that knows us really well "knows the plans HE has for you"!

Been there, done that. NROTC scholarship was awarded to DS on March 28th last year. USNA TWE came later than that. It was a tough day, but DS really loves where he landed. The disappointment is tough...especially for the parents because we ache as much or more for our kids...but wow, what great kids! There are no words that will help you through the wait other than to try and keep busy. Be proud to still be in the game and make sure your other plan A is in place.

All the best to you who are still waiting. Wherever you land, the sky is the limit for you!

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody, as it seems lots are in this situation. We too are paying deposits for room and orientation at plan B, with a more realistic view that the odds are this is where he'll be. Already discussing and reading roller coaster threads is helpful at this point. Maybe BFEs will come to all forum readers this year or next!!!

Last year I did not hear of my status until April 15. At that point they had put me on the NAPS waitlist, and did not receive a TWE until mid July.

Hey Kaaron! Oooh! So what's considered "late"? Nov, Dec, Jan ? DS came down with the flu and tried the CFA before he was fully recovered (worried that he'd not be considered "early enough"). However, once he recovered, he was able to better his score, but this was in early Jan. USNA, greatfully, updated it. But now DS doesn't know if this is what may have put him in this hold position. Thank you for sharing your insight.

I suspect a repeat CFA could put things in a holding pattern. I can tell you for a fact that there are a few at NAPS class of 2015 that originally had an appointment to USNA then were switched to NAPS. They were told it was due to a repeat CFA. I'm fairly certain this was due to a glitch with spots for primary noms last year, but it indicates that the initial CFA results can be a determining factor in placement.

BamaMama,
DS's MOC interview was mid January. His nomination was then posted on portal end of January.
