Summmer

Well, if flunk Calc 3, you'll be in summer classes. You realize, I assume, that no matter how many credits you come into USAFA with, you will still be in school FOUR YEARS. It's not three and out.

If you want to give up leave to take a summer class in order to reduce the academic year load, it is based on a lottery system, so it's possible, but not guaranteed.

My motive is to learn as much as I can in FOUR years. Not to get out early, even if it means to take extra classes in the summer. To me, one and a half weeks of summer break is enough.

Carlin, you aren't there quite yet. Trust me, you will need some breaks. Academics are very important at the SA, but remember the leadership training is just as important. Your Airman could care less that you double majored in rocket science, space shuttle engineering and minored in Klingon. The enlisted men and women of the services deserve great officers. So don't discount the importance and the amount of time it takes to embrace and volunteer for Cadet leadership roles and learning about the USAF. Its great you have high academic goals and set yourself up for success, but the SAs are so much more than just academics.

Regardless of whether you opt to give up your leave for optional summer school, you will have summer training the remaining blocks. The summer is broken in to 3-4 wk training blocks. One block is leave or optional summer school/optional training opportunities, the other blocks are for other military/leadership training where you will/may take survival classes, jump school, soar school, visit other military bases, have the opportunity to intern, etc. Some of these are mandatory based on your year, others are more like electives. So if you opt to give up your summer leave, depending on your schedule, you may not have any summer break. If that doesn't matter to you, the opportunity and possibility does exist to get ahead in classes thru summer school.
