I am currently debating between an AP Computer Science course and Cisco Networking (Cisco 1 and 2 included). I am looking at a major in cyber defense/cyber operations, and know that both would be helpful. They both offer a fully weighted 5.0. Comp Sci offers AP Exams and Cisco offers dual enrollment. I would appreciate any advice on which classes to take, or which you think would be more helpful. Additionally, I am already enrolled in the prerequisite to AP Comp Sci, and have some experience with networking.

I took AP Comp Sci my sophomore year, it was a blast! I would definetly recommend it. It's a great introduction to computer classes especially at the college level.. And the AP credit doesn't hurt!

Go with AP Computer Science. As a cyber security major your coding abilities will not need to be extremely advanced so don't worry too much about the course difficulty. It is more important you have a basic understanding of what coding actually is then being a genius at it right now. Most likely the majority of your work will by with Linux and coding with Python or Java if you're more specialized in IST. AP Computer Science is excellent course that teaches you the basics of all programming languages. The material does not get too difficult either but you will for sure learn a lot! As a Computer Science major I still fall back onto the material I learned in that class to help me solve problems from time to time
