Hey guys! I was just recently informed that I was selected to be apart of the Local Diversity Visitation Program, a free overnight visit to USAFA because I met the "Air Force's definition of diversity." Has anyone attended this program? And if so, what should I expect of it? Thanks everyone!!!

I would expect a visit full of activity, tours, sitting through some classes with Cadets and all the other things they do. Whomever arranged this for you should have all the details including schedules and what to expect.

It's a look at a 'day in the life" of a Cadet...only a snapshot to help you decide if you want 4 years worth + 5 more at least.

Enjoy and have fun!

I went last September after my ALO nominated me; there were two sessions I was able to pick from. They gave me an itinerary that walked you through basically everything you will do every day you're there. It was pretty fun and you're gonna have a ton of time to spend with your cadet so I'd definitely bring something to do when they're studying. The group of guests like yourself gets shown around the entire campus and you meet with your admissions counselor. Very fun and informative experience

Thanks for replying, and I was looking on other threads and was wondering if being selected for this means anything for appointments to the AFA? I heard that there is a high correlation between those that go to the DVP and getting an appointment or LOA? Or is this just a myth? Thanks so much!!

I don't think it's any indication or at least I wouldn't take it that way. What you may have heard is more anecdotal, people's perception that a good number get in. Unless of course there is a study that tracks those numbers I wouldn't over think it. I also have to say that all SAs do round out their class year with diversity so it could add to the perception.

It's definitely a good sign, but I don't think it has huge admissions implications, and like I said earlier, you get to personally meet with and chat with your admissions counselor about anything you want to, so you can ask for advice to make yourself stand out before you even start your app. From what I heard it's not as competitive as summer seminar since, from my understanding your ALO has to nominate you, at least that's how I found out about it. Regardless best of luck!

My DD was selected to the Diversity Visitation Program(DVP) after she was nominated by her ALO . Sponsored by the AOG, selected applicants (approx. 40 candidates) were flown in from different parts of the country. The Program starts on Wednesday and commences on Sunday. Everything is coordinated by the Academy Admissions as far as activities are concerned, down to mealtimes. They shadow a cadet but not 100% of the time as they are pulled as a group to have visits to the Prep School, Athletics, and watch the Football game, etc. There were candidates that were presented with LOAs for direct admits to the Academy and for the Prep school in one of those days. It is not a strong indication of an appointment but the group has been told many times that they would not be "flown in" if they are not strong candidates. One of the LOA recipients was given an appointment while one LOA recipient did not get an appointment. My daughter does not know why the second one did not get the appointment(she thought it was too personal to ask for details). We can only guess why!

Just a note: don't forget that "diversity" might not mean the same thing to your admissions counselor as it might to you.

I attended the Diversity Visitation Program in November 2014 (my senior year). Great experience, learned a ton about the Academy, had a lot of fun, was awarded an LOA by Lt Gen Johnson, and now have an appointment. Do you live in Colorado? Wondering how the "Local diversity Visitation Program" differs from the Diversity Visitation Program, if at all.

Yes, I do live in Colorado Springs actually! I can see the academy right outside my window! Were you rewarded your LOA at the program? I'm really excited for the trip up there though!

Yes, I was given my LOA at DVP. Complete surprise.
