Does visiting West Point Admissions for a scheduled Cadet Tour look favorable on ones application? Is is even noted on the application that a candidate was even there?

I don't know but we did not tour or visit WP officially until my son went to SLE. He is in the class of 2019, so a Cadet Tour can't be all that important.

We went and toured the spring of dd's junior year. You get a chance to meet with your admissions rep and ask questions and they will look at your file and "critique" it per se. From that standpoint I would say it was invaluable. The advice dd received that day may very well have been the difference in her getting an appointment.

Interesting point @jebdad
It never occurred to me to drive my son up to WP to meet with anyone to ask about his transcript.

I should have been on this forum last year!

Even if it isn't noted on your file, it's a positive to be able to mention in an interview that you have been to West Point and have seen it firsthand. This is true especially if you don't live close. It's unfortunate that if you live in say Florida or Texas, it quite a trip to get there, but this also makes you standout from your peers in that you've been there.

Personally, whenever things got tough with school or my app or whatever, I would think of that hallowed ground that I have walked and touched, and it would always strengthen my resolve.

I'd recommend scheduling a visit whether it helps the application or not. It's great to be able to see the place first hand and it better prepares you for what you're getting yourself into. I feel like R-Day would have been even more disorienting had I not had a base understanding of where I was from the tour. Just a thought.
