Does anyone know if we will be able to PT on our own at CLC 2015? I can't seem to find anything and I don't want to get out of shape. Will there be a gym for cadets to use?

Nobody really knows what CLC will be like, you will be among the first to be involved in this grand experiment. If it's anything like LDAC your not going to have any time or the option to go to a gym, whether you have any time to PT on your own will be up to the schedule.

If it's like LDAC last year they didn't let anyone PT on their own for fear of heat issues. What, heat in the summer time at Fort Knox.............

Yep, and after the 7th Regiment they even cancelled the APFT altogether. I wonder if they are expecting it to be a nice cool summer at Ft. Knox this year. It will be interesting to see how they handle the heat and PT this year, although the APFT at CLC (if they even have one) is not part of the OML this year.

I'm thinking rocking chairs on the porch and Mint Juleps at noon, it is Kentucky after all.

There is no APFT at CLC, citing the heat and requiring schools to be more accountable when hosting their on-campus APFT's. Cadre are also saying that a majority (2/3 at least) of our training will be indoors due to the heat.

Everything about this is just so sad.

LTC had been at Ft. Knox for years and seemed to do just fine. I'm sure BOLC for Infantry, Armor, and other branches will make sure they move the majority of their training indoors over the summer months because of the heat.

My son was never so mad as when he got back from LDAC last year, having training shortened and some just cancelled because some cadets couldn't prepare themselves and handle the heat. Son goes to school in the PNW where 75 degrees is considered a scorcher, he managed a 335 APFT just before they cancelled the test and gave everyone a 300, they were doing the tests at 4am when it was 70 degrees, I mean really.

I'm not an overly Hooah type but for God's sake, these cadets signed up for the Army, not the Boy/Girl Scouts.

For the OP, just make sure you get back into PT training when your done with CLC, doesn't look like you'll get much while your there.

I was thinking the same thing before I read your post.

Before long they're going to have to re-write all the military jokes so the Army is at the btm of totem pole instead of the Air Force or Coast Guard.............no offense to either branch.

LOL. If I asked about moving training to avoid being uncomfortable I'd be laughed out of the room...

To the OP, don't count on time for PT. There's just sometimes courses don't have time to allow for it and PT is not the priority for CLC. It'll be okay.

I agree 100% with Jcleppe above!!

keydet2016, you sound just like my son. Besides PT (5) days a week for RC (they are off to West Point this weekend!!), he goes to the gym at school to lift a minimum of 5 days. I had to pay $7 a day for him to go to a local gym while we were on a snowboarding vacation. My son is also 1st Reg at CLC so you'll probably run into each other. Three days after CLC is over, he's off to CTLT at Ft Bragg so he better get used to the heat ;)

I'm CLC 1st reg too! Should be fun to be the true guinea pigs of this thing.

We all wish you guys the best of luck, I guess the sliver lining is that being the first test subjects will not effect your OML since CLC is no longer evaluated. Just roll with whatever they throw at you.

Wait no longer evaluated? CLC does not impact OML?

Nope, the only thing that will effect the cadet's OML are the Standardized Tests that CC has decided to have them take while at CLC. None of the tests have anything to do with CLC.

No APFT, No graded Land Nav, No evaluated Patrolling Lanes, No S, E or N,s, No Top 5 or Recondo for extra points. CLC has no spot on the new OML and carries no points.

So when a cadet finishes their MS3 year, they are at where they're at, the only things left that will be added to their OML will be their Standardized test scores.

It's more important then ever that cadets take care of business at their battalion for the first 3 years, gone are the days when a cadet could help boost their standing by do very well at LDAC. I remember hearing of cadets in my son's battalion over the last seven years that would be toward the bottom of the battalion OML but get an E, Top 5, and Recondo at LDAC and move up the OML to make Active Duty and get a Branch they were happy with, that won't happen anymore.

Whether this is a change for the good or not, well only time will tell.

Wow.

A big difference between Basic Training and LTC at Knox and LDAC was the Basic/LTC cadets go back to the barracks at night. The first few regiments at LDAC spent 21 days living outdoors, both day and night.

I went first regt. and we were allowed and 'highly encouraged' to go out and PT on our own while in the barracks. While we were in the tent cities and in the field, several of us got together and worked out until we were told we weren't allowed to anymore, which was about 2 weeks in. I got a 360 on the APFT at the beginning, and by the time I got to CTLT, I was struggling to max the run because we literally sat on our asses for 2 weeks. Find a way to PT... anything will help. Even if it's at night, running the hallways or stairs in the barracks.
