Sending SAT scores

I am a junior taking the SAT this April for the first time. Should I write the USAFA test code on my exam? Or should I wait until I receive my scores. I have heard people say that if you wait too long to send scores then you have to pay for them. Is this true? Is it too early to send scores?

Wait, if you can afford it. What if the scores aren't all that great the first time you take them?

Just wait. If you mark down where they ask do you want this sent to your high school then they will just be on your transcripts anyways. Then they will super score all of the scores if you took it more than once. We never had to send them to the academy. They just took them off my sons official transcripts from school. Hope that made sense!

Thank you both for your comments. So @Va19, are you saying that you didn't have to send an SAT score report? They just looked at the official transcripts provided by the school?

It doesn't matter. The Academy does super score, so if you don't do well you can always send them again without penalty.

For me personally, USAFA did not take SAT / ACT information off my transcripts. I had to resend.

My DD had to send them as well.

DD had a college counselor who recommended to never send SAT/ACT scores until you see the scores.

That's because your daughter's college counselor is ignorant of military academies. For many schools, you don't want to send ACT/SAT scores unless you know what they are and you WANT them to be the scores the college sees. But the academy is different. You can send scores from 10 different test cycles and the academy will take the BEST from EACH test. AKA: Superscore. If the BEST math was on the 3rd test, and the BEST science was on the 2nd test, then those scores are what they'll take.

So, back to the original question. Always send your scores, from ALL tests, to the academy. Anyone who says to wait and not send the scores to the academy, simply doesn't understand. They are incorrect. And the academies don't accept the scores written on your high school transcripts. They want the official ACT/SAT scores sent to them. Just like any other college.

No we didn't have to. We had sent the "official" high school transcripts and they used those because they were on it. I am not sure if all high school transcripts have ACT and SAT on them. However we were prepared to send them all but didn't have to.

It won't hurt you if you send them now and you'll save a couple dollars. I can't remember for the SAT but for the ACT it is 12 dollars to send and if you don't buy the 16 dollar priority shipping, they won't send your scores right away they send em out like 2 times a month so you have to wait until one of those times come. That could be an issue if you're under a time crunch. I had some good scores and some bad scores but I sent them all 6 of my standardized tests. Plus, yes there is the "what if I do bad" but you can also think positive and say "what if I do awesome" and you would've wished you sent the scores.

And there's the fact that they will always take your best scores. If you do terribly the first time, but later improve, they essentially forget about the bad scores. So really, you have nothing to lose :) And no it's not too early
