I am asking this out of pure curiosity and confusion.
So the pay for a junior officer on the Army website is around $35,000. I seem to remember that the USMA website had a salary at about $70,000, and I just read an article that had the same number. Just wondering why this is...?

I believe the base salary is roughly 35,000 but then you also receive a housing salary of 15-25k and some sort of stipend for food. I believe the pay is usually closer to 60k right out of college but there are also bonuses available of up to 17k ish I think.

Don't count on any 17Kish bonuses.

The housing "salary" is called BAH
The "Stipend for food" is called BAS

BAH depends on where your stationed.

By way of example:

A newly minted 2LT at Fort Campbell would make
Base Pay - $2934.30
BAH - $1206.00
BAS - $253.38

Total: $4393.68 x 12 = $52,720.56

Figure you'll lose about 15% to taxes, so your net will be around $44,000 in your pockets.
