Ready, Set, Stat Me!

FYI, I go to an SMC, but give me y'all's opinion on how you think my chances would be for active duty if that were not the case, I'm looking for pointers and advice more than "so can I be a Special Forces Officer now?" Thanks ya'll.....just took the second APFT today....last thing to do in the class of '16 accessions packets...




Top 4 Branch Choices (these are the ones I would be most happy to receive): Ordnance w/EOD Volunteer, Engineers, Chemical, Field Artillery

GPA: 3.8, Political Science major w/a minor in German

APFT 1: 260
APFT 2: 290

Platoon Leader within the AROTC program.

Senior member of German Club

Earned GAFPB and Schützenschnur (these are supposedly going to count for something) while on a CULP mission.

My school OML ranking is 9 out of approximately 85-90 cadets in my class, I assume this is what's used for the little section of points said to be CO's discretion.

Played an NCAA sport for one semester (budget cuts, plus I wasn't too great, booted me off of that, but I was told it absolutely counts for something).


That's all I can think of for now as things that actually matter for the new OML (standardized tests taken at CLC count for a big part); feel free to comment below and let me know how you think I stand...

I feel confident in saying you would have no issue getting Active Duty through a civilian college ROTC program.

Your ROTC Battalion ranking is great and will count for more then just a little with the new OML. The only caveat is that you are not a STEM major which means that you lose 4 points right out of the gate, it should not effect you that much since your GPA will help make up those points.

Unless you completely tank your standardized testing (Which I highly doubt you will) you should be in good shape on the AD OML, with the branches you listed I imagine you will get one of your top 3 if not your #1.

Of course this is all just a guess, but even with the new OML system, you look to be in good shape.

Why Chemical? Think about listing chemical that high long and hard...

I've done alot of research before I decided to risk placing Chemical so far up on my dream sheet, but in talking to cadre and other officers/NCO's and in doing my own googling, I've found it to be pretty commonplace that the Chemical branch has a lot of opportunity for a variety of reasons, and that most bad things you hear about the branch are from CBRN folks attached to Maneuver units. Within CBRN units, the stereotypes doesn't exist, plus they get to do all kinds of cool stuff, which is why I considered them in the first place.

Fair enough, if it's a branch you want more power to you. Get ready for those USR's...
 
If I do branch Chemical, I'll do everything I can (already have some BRADSO's planned) to be able to be attached to a chemical battalion or at the very least be assigned to a post with a sizeable CBRN presence. Most folks don't want Chemical, take the shot to be assigned to a maneuver BCT, and get stuck being the USR weenie.
