First I'd like to congratulate all the "kids" that have received an appointment for the class of 2019. Enjoy your last 12 weeks of civilian life!
My question is about wearing you uniform off campus/base. I understand that the cadets cannot wear civilian clothes, but which uniform is appropriate for a town trip? Are the blue trops okay to wear off base? What about pajamas? Are there CGA PJ's? (with Objee the bear on them)?

There are different uniforms throughout the year. Typically wither Trops or SDBs are the uniform of the day to be worn during liberty. For PJs we wore our Coast Guard shorts and study hour shirts but I'm not entirely sure if we ever switched into something else to sleep in. There weren't CGA PJs (but there was CGA swim gear and workout gear).

It's not just that you can't wear civilian clothing (especially 3/c and 4/c years), civilian clothing can't even be in your room. I has to be stored away in your trunk in the trunk room.

Once they become 3/C, they can wear khakis and CGA polo shirts off campus. In order to be in civilian clothing, they have to be 75 miles away from campus.

Depends on the season. Trops and SDB's are the only two options for 4/c, and which one of those two they wear depends on the season.
No pajamas, no other variations.

In Chase Hall, you have gym gear and whatever CG issued stuff you go to sleep in. But you can't wear that on liberty off base.

To follow up on that, you have seasons.... it's like wearing a white cowboy hat or a black one.... in the winter there is one general set of uniforms and in the summer another. Each day there is also a "Uniform of the Day" or UOD. This isn't unique to the Coast Guard Academy, every base has a UOD.

In my experience, in the fall/winter, as a cadet, we wore Winter Dress Blues. On liberty we wore Service Dress Blues (SDBs). In the spring/summer we were Trops (at the time they were called Tropical Blue Long). We also wore trops on liberty. When the uniform season changes, those uniforms you aren't going to wear for awhile probably go to the dry cleaners, and get hung up, until the next time you need them.

There are also odd uniforms that you'll wear sometimes, but this is outside the normal UOD schedule. For instance you may wear Full Dress Blues (which is what we called our parade uniforms or monkey suits), of Service Dress Whites (SDWs) for graduation. There's also Dinner Dress (Blues and Whites) and many other things.

They'll be nice enought to announce it "The uniform of the day is Trops..." and they'll throw in if you're wearing a spell hat or coat.

On liberty you'll wear the combo cover, but typically at CGA you'll wear garrison covers (the floppy Waffle House looking things) or, if you're wearing the Operational Dress Uniform (ODUs), you'd wear a Coast Guard ball cap.
