Has anyone heard from the Falcon Foundation for CO'19? Or remember in the past when those offers were handed out, did the candidates who got them get a rejection letter, etc.

My son received his offer of a Falcon Foundation scholarship right around the middle of April. I'm not sure if the timeline is still the same though...He graduated USAFA class of 2014, so his letter came mid-April 2009.

In 2012, I received notification of my FF Scholarship in mid May. It really just depends on the year. It's probably not what you want to hear, but you'll know when you know.

Falcon Foundation offers go out from mid-April to late May. There are limited slots.

Do not delay a decision on your plan B past the point at which you must make a commitment. If the Falcon foundation does not come through you have bought insurance with your plan B. If the Falcon Foundation does come through after you have made a commitment to your plan B, you now have a choice.

What is the difference between the AFA Prep School and Falcon Foundation? Sorry if this question has already been answered. :)

The prep school is an actual school on the AFA campus, the Falcon Foundation gives scholarships to cadet candidates to go to various prep schools around the nation, and like the prep school, they are likely to receive admission the following year as long as they meet the standard.

DS is a 2016er. He received his FF offer first week in May. He had already received his TWE in early April. He will tell you that his FF experience at NWP enabled him to succeed his Doolie year. Like the Prep School, this is a golden ticket. As long as you keep your grades up and don't do anything stupid (e.g. DUI, arrested) you will receive an appointment the following year. Yes, many of his high school friends are graduating this year and he will graduate next year. But he realizes that in the big picture the one year doesn't matter. Plus most of his good friends now are at USAFA with him.

My DS is not eligible for the PS as stated on his TWE. Is the criterion the same for FF? He would love any chance for that.

My DD's best friend received a TWE and was not eligible for Prep school. She received a Falcon Foundation Scholarship last May.

Wait did your TWEs specifically say that you are not eligible for the prep school?
Exact words from rejection letter were:
Thank you for applying to the Class of 2019. However, I am sorry to inform you we will not be able to admit you to the Air Force Academy or the Air Force Academy Preparatory School this year.

Weird. Our DD's letter didn't say anything about Prep School. I wonder how you would be automatically disqualified for both? We are going to go with the assumption, too, that most of those offers are out as well. Plan B is under way--not to say she wouldn't accept a PS slot because she would jump at it!

I have heard of others with the same line in their rejection letter. I think if it doesn't say you're not eligible, then maybe they're still considering you for it?

It's so frustrating because there seems to be so many layers to the different decisions. Her letter just listed classes that she should take this next year to strengthen her app should she want to re-apply and said to continue with her physical fitness and leadership activities while at a University. They listed Calc I and II, Physics with a lab, social sciences, and college English (which she is taking now?)

Ours also had that line about the course recommendations. I think that part is pretty generic. Call me obsessed or call me crazy, but I have also been racking my brain and reading the forums now about FF. Plan B is AFROTC and reapplying for my DS, but FF would be so much better in his eyes!

Ineligibility for the Prep School may not impact eligibility for a Falcon Foundation Scholarship. They use different criteria. Hang in there. Another option is going to one of the Falcon prep schools without a FF scholarship. These prepsters are called Self-Preps or Free Agents. Since they do not have the Golden Ticket of the FF scholarship, their chance of receiving an appointment the next year is not as high as FF Scholars. However, many do get to an appointment the next year. Check with the individual prep schools for their success with Free Agents.

Here is a related thread from last year.

Thank you for the encouraging words. Our DS's dream has always been to fly for the USAF and the rejection was devastating, esp with no chance for the Prep School. He does have some hope in the AFROTC scholarship but we have heard that pilot slots are far more difficult to get. We are researching into doing a self-prep, and weighing the risks and benefits of all options available to him. We are very blessed just to have some options.

My son received his TWE during the first week of April last year. He received the Falcon offer around April 17th and has attended MMI this year. It has been a great experience for him!

Sunday, did your DS receive any kind of prior notice that FF offer would be made? Our DS rec'd TWE last week, no nom and not offered Prep. Could he still be in the running for FF offer?

He's wait listed at USNA so there is still hope of an appointment, or Foundation offer there too.
