ROTC scholarship transfer

So I just received the good news that I have been awarded a 3 year army ROTC scholarship. However it was to the one school I didn't receive admission too, RPI. I want to transfer the scholarship to Clarkson and I was wondering if anyone here could tell me how likely this request would be to go through, as well as give me some insight into the process of transferring the scholarship.

The ROO from Clarkson posts here often under the name Clarksonarmy.

The letter you receive in a few days will have instructions on how to submit for a transfer.
 
My DS was on the NWL for USMA and didn't get in but did receive the 4 year AROTC scholarship today like many! Congrats to all. My question is he has been accepted to Citadel and a good 4 year state University. He is torn on what to do since WP was his dream. Any one have experience with Citadel? Thanks in advance for your comments.

The best advice is to choose a school that he feels he will be the most successful. ROTC is unlike WP in that fact that Active Duty is not a guarantee, he will need to have good grades, good PMS evaluations, and a good ranking on the battalion OML to assure Active Duty.

SMC's such as the Citadel can be easier to get AD, while the official line is that AD is Guaranteed at SMCs, there is a caveat that the PMS needs to give their recommendation. With the high number of SMC cadets that were given AD that were below the cutoff this year, they will be looking harder at that reommendation.

The OML works similar to WP for branching and all branches are available to ROTC cadets.

As long as he works hard he will do well and have a good chance at AD.

So again, look at the school that give the best chance at success, has the major he wants, and he feels

You can establish first contact by going online to Clarkson University Army ROTC website. Click on contact and send an email with your interest. As Jcleppe said you will get paperwork from CC soon.
 
you will be getting an email from me Monday...You are on my list of potential transfers and I'll do what I can to help you out. I'm waiting for the dust to clear before I start contacting my non selects and my "got an offer to another school". Don't want to be accused of poaching, but if you have a denial letter from RPI and your acceptance letter to Clarkson we have a pretty good shot.
 
Ok, So I have been lurking here for months gaining info through out the process. Thank you for that! My DS was awarded a 3 year scholarship today to the Citadel. It says pending acceptance. Here is the problem/ question. He applied early descision and was accepted to VMI. We have already committed and signed up for the STP. He never applied to the Citadel!!! Is it still a possibility to transfer this scholarship? Thank you in advance, and congrats to all winners!!!!
 
yes...the instructions will be pretty clear when he receives his letter. He can request the transfer and he will want to explain that he was accepted and went ED. I'm not sure how the SMCs work though. hopefully they are stingy with moving their scholarships round. Never know with those SMCs. Wait for the offer letter to arrive, accept the offer, and request to transfer. That's all you can do.

Hello, I have a quick question regarding an ROTC scholarship transfer. I accepted a scholarship to a school in PA . However, I want to tranfer my scholarship to another school in PA that costs $5,000 more. I am a 4 year winner and both schools are in the same brigade. Is this likely to happen? I emailed and said I would accept a 3 year instead of a 4 if I could attend this school, because it costs 5,000$ more. Any feedback would be appreciated I have submitted my transfer requirements.
 
When does one learn of their transfer's acceptance/rejection? I heard April 13 if I am not mistaken.
 
I thought decisions on transfer requests were by May 6 th, but I might be mistaken.
Does anyone know the correct date?
 
The OML is used to make the offers. Once you have an offer it's a matter of cost and allocations and hopefully common sense to determine whether to allow the transfer or not.

That being said, I could be wrong because Cadet Command never really reveals exactly how the make decisions.

Isn't it easier to transfer when you're transferring a scholarship within the same brigade? I want to transfer to a school that's 5,000 more (see my post above) but it's in the same brigade.
 
It varies from year to year, and Cadet Command doesn't always tell us what the criteria are. ...It may be easier, and it may be harder this year. You should never expect the transfer request to be granted. Don't burn any bridges.

That being said...in the past we were told the Brigade and cost were both factors. The fact that it's a 3 year offer is also a factor.

We shall see how this all plays out soon.

Well I have a 4 year and I said I would take a 3 year if cost was an issue
