ROTC scholarship for West Point TWE's

DS received TWE from WP last week stating that he was fully qualified but was not getting an appointment. I understand that Cadet Command gets the names of all 3Q/ no appt candidates from WP and offers some ROTC scholarships. Does anyone know how many they hand out and how quickly candidates are notified?

Did your DS apply for an ROTC scholarship or is he hoping they just randomly give him one to a random school? I can't give a solid answer on this so I wont, but I would never bet on this, it'd simply be too much of a risk for me to guess whether or not USACC would offer someone who hasn't bothered applying yet (if your DS hasn't applied). USACC, or any of the branches for that matter, isn't hurting for qualified applicants.

To lurking candidates (of both ROTC and a SA), don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Then he should know where he stands in the ROTC process regardless of a USMA decision. My previous post was meant to be targeted toward all candidates not necessarily just Cadet2019. Apply for both or drive on if you don't and get rejected.
 
He did not get the ROTC scholarship after the 3rd board, but was told by the ROTC liaison that he could still get the scholarship via the WP process.

Ah, I see now (I didn't realize all the boards were over). Hopefully that works out for him, and if not, encourage him to enroll in ROTC when he gets to campus. There are opportunities for scholarships then.

There is really not any timeline for those offers if they are given. Make sure he keeps in contact with the battalion at the school he wishes to attend.
 
That process has always been less then transparent. I would hope/expect those offers to go out fairly quickly since, believe it or not, Cadet Command is aware of the college admissions timeline. Keep your ear to the ground, but you need to be moving forward with your decision making process.
 
Thanks for all of your responses. We'll wait and see, and in the mean time will keep communicating with the ROTC liaison at school #1, where DS was already accepted. Still scratching our heads as to how someone who was fully qualified for WP (and who Field Force rep thought would get an appointment) did not get an ROTC scholarship. Won't bore you with details of his resume, but everyone who opined on it (that is knowledgeable of the process) thought the ROTC scholarship should have been a slam dunk. Go figure! Maybe he'll get lucky on the rebound.

It's not overly difficult to be 3Q for USMA, being competitive is the hard part. There are many ROTC applicants your son was competing against that would be competitive for USMA, but do not want to go that route, and you're competing nationally from the get-go with ROTC. You will also read stories here of people (seems to happen more often with USNA/NROTC) of people who were accepted to a SA, but not ROTC. Both are extremely competitive, and simply being qualified for one does not make you competitive for the other. I don't doubt he was competitive, but it's a tough process. I've said before that if I were competing these days, I probably wouldn't have gotten a 4 year scholarship, and I'm only about 5-6 years removed from the process. Best of luck to your DS

My DS received his TWE on the day you posted and has moved onto his plan B. No thoughts of ROTC or reapplying. He had enough. Boys State, JROTC 4 years, Battalion Commander his final year. GPA 4.5, Cross country, Track, and 4 years of Rugby including 3 state championships.AP scholar in 11th grade and countless awards. As well as two nominations. He gave his heart and soul to be turned down. Now, he wants the regular college experience (the opposite end of the spectrum) and I don't blame him.
USACC sent him an e-mail yesterday offering him a full scholarship to any ROTC program of his choice. He did not apply for this nor did he want it and most likely won't take it. From the TWE to the new offer -about two weeks. FYI. I hope this answers your question.

I understand the disappointment, my DS had some let downs too. I can't help but wonder, if he turns down the AROTC scholarship if he wanted to be an Army officer or if West Point was the goal. No offense intended. But if he wants to be an Army officer, they are providing a path.

What a great opportunity, glad to see Cadet Command is making offers. This will be great news for any applicant whose primary goal is to become an Officer in the Army. Good luck to all of you.
 
Any chance they might upgrade a 3 year winner to 4 year due to TWE. Not holding my breathe and have year one worked out, just curious.
