Hi Guys. My name is David. I'm new to this forum but I've been looking at it a long time without actually making an account. There were some things that I was able to find the answer to by looking at other questions that people had already posted but I couldn't find answers for others. Trying to google them really didn't help.

I'm applying to:
1) Coast Guard Academy
2) Air Force Academy
3) Naval Academy
4) West Point

I got rejected from the Naval Academies Summer Seminar and have yet to hear back from West Point for their Summer Leadership Experience Program. I was told by an Admissions Officer that I would have found out by the 15th but their website says the 30th so I'm going to e-mail back and see what they say again.

My question is how congressional nominations work. If you are nominated by a congressman, does that nomination go for all the Academies that you are applying for or does it go to just one? I heard somewhere that you can only get a nomination from a congressman for one academy. Is that right? Also, can you receive multiple nominations from different congressman? Thanks guys. This forum is really helpful.

I'll try to keep this short as the answer to most of the questions you asked are "it depends."

You should apply, at a minimum, for a nomination from your Congressman and two Senators and the VP (there are other noms available with specific criteria for applying, i.e., Presidential, ROTC, etc. but I'll stick to the questions at hand). Each of these MOCs (Members of Congress) may nominate you to one or multiple academies. It depends on how they run things. For example, my DD's Congressman asked her to rank order her preferences as did one of her two Senators. The second Senator had her choose only one academy for which to compete for a nomination. Some MOCs will give only one nomination to one academy, some will give nominations to more than one academy. Your best bet to to go to your MOC's web sites and look under their academy nominations section to see how they do business. Some MOC's talk amongst themselves to eliminate multiple nominations to the same academy, some do not. This is usually driven by the competitiveness of the State/District. A bit confusing, I know, but I hope this helps a bit.

Agree with wishful. This is an anonymous forum. You probably will need the mods to do it for you.

I also agree with Juvat. If you use the search function here, chances are good you will find posters that are from your state and reading through them may give you insight not only to if they talk, but also if they do interviews

Thank you very much Juvat. Your response really helped to clear up some of the confusion.

There is a sticky at the top of the Nomination forum page above. It has most of the FAQ's along with most of yours.

Why reveal your identity on an anonymous forum? You are going to be submitting applications etc. that have your full name. Do you want admissions personnel to be able to match that application to everything you post here? Not to say they would attempt to do so, but some people from admissions do follow these forums.

You can change your name in one of two ways:
1. Abandon this account and open a new one with an anonymous screen name that doesn't reveal your identity. Since you don't have many posts I would recommend this approach as nothing is really lost.
2. Contact Tactical Nuke and request that you would like your screen name changed.

Here is why you should change it impo.

1. This is not FB where you can set it to private.
~ Notice there are over 20K members. Many may have opened an account for pure purposes, advice, guidance, fellowship. Some may have opened just to lurk. They could be ALO/BGO/FFR, PMS or college admissions.

What you say, may give more insight into you than what you wanted.

2. My kids have done internships. One was a ROTC cadet, the other just a college student.
~ DS (ROTC) interned for a Senator. DD interned for Make A Wish. Both of them had been reviewed for lack of better words that included social media.
~~ DD was shocked when they knew of her twitter account. It is not under her name, it is a nickname. They looked at her and asked what did you think? Did you think the IT dept. only fixed computers?

3. Please remember or realize even FB is not as private as you may think. How many friends do you have 300, 400, 500? They tag a picture of you on their page, than now that pic is floating out there, and not every FB member is private.
~ I do not ask to be my kids friends until they request me. However, because they accepted friends that are my friends, I can go in the back door and see pics. ~ Go ROTC and join their FB page, you are opening yourself up even more.

I am with kinnem. Reopen a new account if you can, and make your name unique. Sure, in time with enough info they can figure you out, but that means a lot of work for the curious cat. Seriously, try to find me. I will give you a ton of info. See if you can find me on FB.
~ Married to Bullet. Bullet works on the 35 at the Pentagon, was a WSO for the F15E. Live in Nokesville, VA. DS commissioned AFROTC 2012. He winged out of Laughlin 2014. Assigned to the C 130 J at Dyess.

This is basically a double dog dare. If I see a name requesting to be my friend than I will assume it is you, but with all of that info you cant find me, than please accept this advice was meant with kindness.

That is the point. If you want to find me, you really have more time on your hands than me. Once you state what state you are from, congressional district, or some small tidbit, like sports, Billy Mitchell, I can just google your name + the tidbit and find you in seconds.

Thank you very much Pima. I messaged TacticalNuke and I am waiting for his response. Thank you
