ARMY ROTC Third Board Winners

DS got tangible confirmation today - nice letter from PMS at one of his three schools. Wheels are moving...slowly.

My DS's S3 and B sqad Captain found out today that he received a 4yr to UC Irvine today when my son made him log on to the Portal... His grades and participation level made him pretty sure he was not even considered... Hehe... He was wrong!

I am really getting tired of people misrepresenting themselves on this board.
Now what did I say wrong?

On another note, is anyone here familiar with the process or people specifically at UC Irvine? Please PM me so I can pass on information to another cadet in JROTC battalion. Thanks.

My DS received his letter in the mail today! I noticed that the letter stated that transfer requests had to be submitted to CC by 13 April 2015. Just received his letter today, 18 April 2015. I guess that means that 3rd board winners may not be able to transfer? We are still going to look into it though.

Still waiting for the package here in CA.....hoping to see it soon, but taking comfort in the welcome e-mail from the ROO at DS' first choice school......

We are still waiting for the package too. We are in Germany and our mail is so slow, I am concerned about missing deadlines. Is it possible to contact someone to get an electronic version sent? If so, who would we contact?

DS passed DODMERB for USMA but AROTC 4 year scholarship letter states "pending medical qualification and administratively qualified". I understand the pending medical qualification part and DS will forward to Fort Knox to expedite the process but what does the "administratively qualified" part mean?

Thanks!!

I believe that part just means they need to graduate high school, enroll in the university that they accepted their scholarship to, and pass the APFT, assuming there aren't any other special issues that need to be looked into by Cadet Command

Congrats everyone! Let's take 2019 by storm guys!

Need feedback/insight as this is my first "go around" with a DS who applied for the AROTC scholarship but did not receive an award. Late today he received emails/calls from two ROO's from schools he did not list nor apply to. They seemed to be aware of his status and expressed what appeared to be genuine interest in my DS. They also made it clear that they may have school-based scholarships for him if he'd like to pursue. I have to say...it's April 20 and boy are we cutting it close and I could sure use some advice from anyone with prior experience. Are others receiving these inquiries, are they "par for the course" after the three boards have concluded and more so the result of a general recruiting outreach, or is it possible that these might be more targeted and they could have slots available for potential school-based ROTC scholarships? I guess what I am asking in plain English is..are these more real or an un-targeted contact effort of those who did not secure a national scholarship. Thanks in advance and now my DS's head is spinning once again :). My DS plans to return their calls tomorrow but better to know what we're walking into. Thanks!

Even as a winner, I've received emails and calls about scholarship opportunities at other schools... So I'm not sure what it means, I would just assume that it's something that goes out to everyone.

Ok Stowie....well, this are the first calls he received so thought it might have more meaning. Oh well....

DS received his paperwork. Needs to turn in by May 10. Question, his paperwork states that he is not yet medically qualified, but he has taken DoDMERB for WP and his status is qualified. Do we need to send a copy of that paperwork back with what CC sent so they are aware? Or will they check with DoDMERB at some point?

Well my family are notorious call screeners... So I don't here about all the calls that come in, but I don't think that makes the opportunities these guys are presenting are any less valid. Some schools only get 2 or 3 scholarships at the national round, and some fill up their entire quota. (My first choice only got 3 from their 30 applicants.) They still have a lot more budgeted.

If I hadn't gotten it, I would definitely be calling all these schools to talk to them about helping finance college.

The same thing is happening to our daughter...no scholarship offered through cadet command but emails coming in from schools she applied to as well as schools those we've never heard of (community military schools) She had applied to all large universities because she (currently trilingual) wants to learn more critical languages then work as a language specialist. We were a bit surprised that a black female with a 4.4 GPA, multiple AP's/dual enrollment, top 10 in a class of over 300 did not get an offer! There must be a lot of weight placed on the PFT because although she is fast (Ethiopian), she is not strong. Does anyone know how we can find out her PFT score? Is it possible, if we get her a trainer and help her improve the PFT score, that she could get a campus based scholarship at one of the schools currently emailing? Thanks everyone.

^ Out of curiosity, what is a "Community Military School?"

On the subject of PFT scores - what were hers? If you don't know the score, how many repetitions did she perform of sit-ups and push-ups, and what was her run time?

If schools are calling her with 4yr scholarship offers, she'll have until fall to pass the pt test and activate the scholarship. If it's a 3yr offer, she has a bit more time.

Thank you, turtlerunner, for giving the date. Hopefully, we will get our paperwork soon.

As far as the medical exams, do those have to be done by then or before school starts? DD was awarded a 3year, so does she actually have another year to complete the medical and fitness testing?
