Im currently a senior now reapplying for the class of 2020. How much does USNA look at your High school transcript when considering a college re applicant. I got a nom this year and kept my senior year grades up pretty well except for one class I couldve done better in which I'm retaking this summer at summer school (AP Chem). Anyways if I do well in Chem this summer will they really even care about how I did in high school?

For a re applicant all that matters is doing well first semester in college. Take plebe year courses.
Sincerely,
Appointed reapplicant

They do but that's to get the baseline. It's a formality to make sure you weren't taking bull classes in high school. Say your grades weren't good enough in high school, then you reapply. They see the past grades and then look at first semester. They just want to see improvement and an ability to do well in college. I took physics Chem calc and history last semester. I recommend the same for you. It will be hard but worth it. If you want to message me I have a wealth of knowledge considering I'm a college student who is in the final two weeks.

Thanks guys. Im taking an engineering course, chem, and econ this summer. Of course calc in the fall and a good bit of other classes. What are the main classes I should take to follow the plebe schedule?

calc
chem
english
history
government
Although he is correct I recommend physics chemistry calculus and history. Although it is harder it will prepare you for the rigors better than the above schedule since you will be taking many technical classes.

I reapplied (didn't get in - due to low GPA) but I took these classes this year:

1st Sem:
Chem w/ lab for engineers
Physics 1 w/ lab
Calc 1
Fitness & Wellness (gym class, yuck)
Civilization (history, mandatory)
16 credits

2nd Sem:
Computer programming
Physics 2 w/ lab
Calc 2
Fitness & Wellness
Biblical Revelation (mandatory humanities)
17 credits

For some reason my 2 hr labs only counted as 1 credit each:/

2 hour labs are only 1 hour at USNA also. PE is also required each semester and does not count as a credit. First semester Plebes take health and wellness as their PE class (unless things have changed). After that it's either drowning classes... I mean swimming or get hit classes... Aka... Judo and boxing.

EDIT:

I had another class 2nd Sem called Intro to Engineering. We cover(ed) stuff like ASME ethics, sig figs, Excel skills, various design challenges, how NOT to give a bad presentation and my favorite, building Lego robots to go pick up soda cans.

@NavyHoops: Interesting to know. Next year one of my 3 hour labs counts and the other doesn't count at all :/ Guess that's just the name of the game. Another freshman here transferred from WP after 1st sem due to medical reasons, and that's pretty much what he said about the boxing class "...just stand there for an hour and learn to deal with getting punched in the face".

I received an appointment and these are the classes I took.
1st Semester:
Calculus 1
Chemistry 1(General)
Chemistry Lab 1
American History
Creative Writing
Leadership and Public Policy(not recommended but I wanted to take it)
Total - 18 credit hours

2nd Semester:
Calculus 2
Chemistry 2(Orgo based)
Chemistry Lab 2
American War History
Comparative Literature(Comp)
Total - 15 credit hours

I was told by my RD after receiving the TWE to take Calc, Chem w/lab, History, and a writing class. I did so. Physics isn't necessary but I'm sure it helps. Shoot for As but don't get anything below a B.

I got my appointment from college this February and this is what I took:

1st:
Physics 1 with lab

Chem 1 with lab

Calc 1

History elective

Rotc MS01

Total of 16 credits

2nd:

Chem 2 with lab

Physics 2 with lab

EMT basic

Rotc MS011

Military fitness

Total of 16 credits

Just to show you that you don't NEED to take the plebe year courses (while they are recommended), I was a college re-applicant from the Wait List of 2018. Appointed in February for Class of 2019.

I came in with 16 credits from AP Courses and Transfers from dual enrollment. Courses I had validated:
Calc 1, Freshman Comp, Intro to Computers, American Politics, Freshman Literature.

First Semester was: SOC 200 Sociology, POL 201 Comparative Politics, COMP 106 Sophomore Comp, ARTH 101 Western Art History with a 3.8 GPA.
Second Semester: CRJ 468 Criminology, POL 334 Organizing and Leadership, HIST 112 American Hist from Civil War, PYSC 101 Intro to Psychology with a 3.7 GPA.

I was unable to take Calc II or Physics due to the courses filling up quickly, but I loaded up on upper level courses for my second semester and did well in them.
Best of luck!
