History of depression?

Hey guys, I am looking to apply to the USMMA this coming fall, but there is one problem. When I moved when I was 10 I wasn't nearly as active or talkative and my mom took that as a sign of depression. According to her I was never diagnosed with depression but I still took ~1 month of medication before ultimately stopping. I also went to several therapists and I was considered to have slight Aspergers, but once again my mom said I was never diagnosed. I don't believe myself to have ever had either of these mental disorders and neither does my mom as of now. It is 6 years since I experienced these symptoms and I have had no problems since. My question is: do I have to mention it if I was never "diagnosed"? I have spoken with my pediatrician and she has no record of either on my record.

If Aspergers and and Depression are documented on your medical records, you need to disclose those conditions. Not doing so could result in serious trouble. However, since both of those conditions were never documented, you were never diagnosed. I would say it is safe to put "No" when it asks you about learning/mental/emotional disorders. Best of luck!

Were the meds you were taking a prescription or were they over the counter. If prescription you will need to at peast report your were taking them I would think. After all they will be in your medical records. However, I would only report taking the meds since there was no diagnosis. If they were over the counter meds and you were not diagnosed, I wouldn't bother reporting them.

But that is the problem. I believe I was prescribed the medication from a doctor that my mother doesn't even remember the name of. We have no way of getting in contact with said doctor. Although that is true, my pediatrician who has kept my records for 17 years had no record of any of this. My question is, if I do report that I took the medication but was never diagnosed with depression, is that disqualifying? Keep in mind this was over 6 years ago and I only took it for ~1 month.

My own feeling is that without a diagnosis it shouldn't be reported. There is no point opening a can of worms because your Mom thought you had something. Even if you did report it, given your age at the time, the short time you took them, and the lack of diagnosis, I would think you would only get a remedial (if that) or a waiver and not a disqualification. Keep in mind, this is all my own opinion and I make no claim of being an expert on DoDMERB issues.
