I just had a quick question regarding the benefits of attending KP.

Upon graduation, will I have the GI Bill?

I read somewhere that the time spent satisfying your obligation does not count toward the 3 years necessary to qualify for the full benefits but I am not 100% positive on that.

Are graduates of the service academies included in this bill?

The GI bill will allow officers who graduated from service academies or received ROTC scholarships to qualify for the new GI Bill benefits. The only catch is that the time spent satisfying the ROTC/Service Academy active duty obligation does not count toward the 3 years necessary to qualify for the full benefits.

HOWEVER; I think KP and USCGA are exempt:

Honestly it appears that whoever was writing the post 9/11 GI bill didn't know KP and USCGA existed and accidentally left them out. BUPERS INSTRUCTION 1780.1A covered the Montgomery GI Bill also seems to exempt KP from the obligation stuff, it doesn't seem super clear cut but I think Active Duty time right out of school counts toward the GI bill.

Strategic Sealift Officers (SSOs) can qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill. You must complete a 90 (consecutive) day ADT in order to qualify. Once you qualify (once you complete a 90 day ADT), all time spent on ADT counts towards GI Bill, including time spent on ADT before qualifying. For example: years 1 through 5 after graduation you only complete a 2 week active duty per year, so no time towards GI Bill. Year 6 you complete a 100 day ADT therefore you qualify for GI Bill, AND all ADT time before and after is aggregate towards GI Bill service. 90 days = 40%; 180 days = 50%; 1 year = 60%; 1.5 years = 70%; 2 years = 80%; 2.5 years = 90%; 3 years = 100%.
