If we fail the tape test on I day, will we be sent home?? I am really trying to pass it, but I have to loose 4in off my hips/waist in the next 17 days.

It is body fat. You have to be under 20 percent for males and under 28 percent for females. To measure body fat the military uses waist/hips/neck for females and waist/neck for males . To calculate it just google body fat calculator military and like 5 show up. Hope this helps!

Well, based on what it said in the Appointee Kit instructions under the Athletics section, it mentioned that those who don't meet the BMI and Body Fat % standards will be entered into a remedial weight management program. I wouldn't assume automatic separation for a failure, but I would work to make it close to the standards prior to I Day, BCT is going to be challenging enough. Good luck!

Does it matter how much under your maximum you are? Like if youre only a few pounds under? Is inly a few pounds under not okay?

For underweight, I think it said something about your data being sent to the Cadet Clinic for evaluation. Again, it wouldn't be an auto-seperation unless there was a serious health concern.

Not like under my minimum, I have no issue of that lol. Since lifting weights Ive gained some weight so im 67.5 inches and im not sure if my maximum will be 175 or 180 but Im 169. Im 38% BMI but i got above average and close to maxing most of my CFA. I just dont know if being so close to my max is bad. Ive been trying to lose weight for 2months and Ive only managed to shed 5 or 6 pounds.

Diet diet diet.... mixed in with cardio, weight lifting, etc.

I don't remember a tape test on Iday or even being weighed. I just remember getting a bunch of stuff thrown at me and getting yelled at a lot.

Work as hard as you can, but don't be silly, and get to the best place you can be...then expect to catch cr** from the cadre...and then work hard in BCT...it'll come off, I promise you!!!

"Put out" and "show" that you are serious...

It'll be fine.

I read in the cadet guide that you have to meet "accession" standards. I am not quite sure what those are though. Anybody else?

According to the online BMI calculator...being 5'7.5" tall and weighing 169 gives you a BMI of 26.1, not 38. I also tend to hear that both males and females lose a ton of weight during BCT so I would "guess" you might come out at about 160 or less.

Thanks. After posting here i realized what i had calculated was my body fat and not my BMI. I intend to just give it my all and see how my cards fall.

What are accession standards? Are they just for weight or are they for everything (eyes, sick, etc..)?

I doubt very much that your body fat is at 38% if you are 5'7.5" tall at weighing 169. If you are measuring your BF by a scale, they are often very wrong. If you are measuring with a tape...it may not be sufficient with the number of points to measure. 3 is often too few. Invariably, your BF is lower. Given the typical weight loss results from BCT, you probably will lose a good 6-10 lbs minimally with most of that being fat. Watch the refined carbs, and sugar and you should be able to lose some more BF in the coming week. Good luck. I already sent you a letter.

Thanks so much for that! And I can't wait to read it!
