DD is settled in and enjoying her assignment in Paraguay. Wifi is spotty but we have been able to facetime her once and audio face-time (which I didn't even know was a thing) once. Said she could only talk that time and not video because they were all on the wifi at once and it would have used too much.

She said they are doing more mil-to-mil activities vs. teaching English (which is what her orders said she would be doing) but she is really enjoying getting to know the Paraguayan Cadets.

And the one thing she wishes she would have done (So advice for those still yet to leave) is packed more civilian clothes. She packed exactly what was on her packing list, but said that that have hardly worn their ACU's and have been in civilian clothes most of the time. And that the clothes at the mall they went to were very expensive. Of course this could vary from country to country, but thought I would pass it along.

DS also stuck to packing list. Had much less than other cadets.

Using viber for brief updates. Brought his own router.

Great experience!
BTW Kosovo

Does anybody know where all the CULP locations were this year? Or are they held at the same places every year? Thank you!

A good number stay the same due to partnerships, but others come and go for various reasons. I don't know if they ever release a full list of what countries and how many teams per country.

Question- I'm still fairly new to this, DS will graduating HS next week and has a 3 yr AROTC. I know he won't be considered contracted until the start of his sophomore year, but would he still be eligible to apply for CULP next summer? I'm not 100% sure.

Unfortunately not, you have to be a contracted cadet for CULP. Fortunately Project GO is open to non contracted cadets and it is similar to CULP expect it's more language focused. A cadet in our battalion went to Morocco two years ago and came back knowing basic Arabic.

Also, you earn course credits that could transfer to his school and satisfy a language requirement so it's one less class he'd have to take. Here's the link: http://www.rotcprojectgo.org/

If you go here you can see pictures from past years categorized by country, so that will give you an idea of the countries they have gone to in the past: http://armyrotc.smugmug.com/CULP

Although there are no pics from Paraguay, which is where my DD is right now, and I also know that she has friends in Madagascar right now and there are cadets in Moldova as well this year.

My DS called last night to let us know his CULP group is back in the U.S. from Angola. Minimal contact while he was there (3 pics) so we're looking forward to hearing about the experience and seeing more pictures.
