Anyone have any suggestions about things me and my family can do before I-Day? We were thinking about exploring Annapolis and D.C.

If you've never been to DC....the Smithsonean and all the museums on that mall. American History etc.

While DC is very interesting, if you want to have fun in your last days before R-Day, I would suggest going to Baltimore's Inner Harbor. You've got the National Aquarium, along with the USS Constellation, USS Torsk, and the USCG Cutter Taney, as well as the Lightship Chesapeake all moored at various points along the harbor. You can tour any or all of them. There are water taxis that you can take to all types of interesting places around the larger Baltimore Harbor, allowing you to get a good waterside view of the city. With the water taxis, you can access the Inner Harbor, Fells Point (the old maritime quarter of the city), Fort McHenry (take the tour!) and other interesting places. If you don't want to get off, you can just cruise around the harbor for a while. There's plenty of shopping, and restaurants in the shopping venues around the harbor, and after a long day, you can walk a few blocks east from the inner harbor and get a great dinner at one of the many restaurants in Little Italy. If you are inclined, you can also catch an Orioles game (if they're in town) at Camden Yards, which is a few blocks west of the inner harbor. The great thing is all of this stuff is within relatively easy walking distance. If you do want to visit the National Acquarium, however, i would suggest getting tickets in advance via the internet if you can.

Alex, R-Day...Could you possibly mean I-DAY?
Just curious... LOL

From recent MIDN....do they still do the tour of Ft McHenry during plebe summer?

I would do DC. The Memorials are so moving. Vietnam. WW memorial. Just walk around. The tidal basin, Jefferson, walk across the river to Arlington and the cemetery. You can walk from Lincoln memorial along the Potomac to Georgetown. Restaurants shops and kayaking along the way. The museums etx will always be there for other trips but I would relax before. No stress to see something or stand in line at a museum.

Oh ok. During plebe summer the plebes visited Ft McHenry prior to the Orioles baseball game (this was before eu switched over to the Bowie Baysox games), so I wasn't sure if they still went to the fort, but it appears they don't!

We arrived a day before I day and just walked around Annapolis went for crabs at Cantlers but to be candid our son seemed to be getting into plebe mode (nervous intensity) and probably did not really care what we were doing and neither did we as we were in "there goes our first kid leaving the nest mode". If you are not from the area and Washington DC or Baltimore are new to you maybe it is different and it will be entertaining and distract you and you will enjoy it but I can tell you that my son told me months later than he barely slept the night before and the last couple of days before I day were a blur. Six years later he has been commissioned and is completing pilot training, so don't be concerned if the last couple days they seemed to be wired a little tight, seems to happen to all of them. Enjoy PPW because I thought I day was a little tough on everyone. Welcome to the club it was a great four years for all concerned.

Annapolis will become the "confines of your prison" meaning that you will have PLENTY of opportunities to experience it over the next four years. Trust me, you won't truly appreciate it until after you come back as an alum.

DC and Baltimore each offer many things to see and do. Whether you do any depends on how many days you have. I suggest (as others have) spending the last 1-2 days prior to I-Day relaxing at the pool (if your hotel has one), watching movies (on TV in the hotel or at the theater), playing video games, eating your favorite foods, etc.
