My DD has grandparents attending I-Day, one of whom is having trouble walking distances. From reading about I day it seems there could be a great deal of walking. We have a hotel room for them in Annapolis. They live 3 hours away. Any advice from folks who have been through it? Should we try to break up the day? Have him come for the Oath? Thanks

It's generally a very long and exhausting day. It can be blazing hot too. The oath and visit after to see the transformation is probably the biggest event. If they have trouble getting around, I would pick that part of the day. I believe if they have a handicap placard you can park on the yard. I would imagine on I Day this would even be full very early, so wouldn't count on that later in the day. I am sure the I Day packet addresses all this. The buses that run from the stadium drop off at Alumni Hall if I remember correctly. The walk from there to T Court isn't bad, but probably could be for someone who has trouble moving. Also there is only so much room to see in T Court. So possibly being a camp chair for the person who needs assistance.

There are lots of previous thread about I Day on here, I would check those out. It's a long exhausting hot day for everyone. There is tons of walking. So depending on what you and your spouse want to do, such as the Mid Store and picnic and things that would be an issue for someone who struggles getting around.

My father was recovering from a heart attack when my parents came for graduation and a lot of the time he was absolutely miserable gasping and having to sit down constantly. I wish I would have rented a wheel chair, tackled him, tied him in it and pushed him around with all the pride a son could muster.

sorry but thanks

We drove my mother in laws car to I-Day. She has the handicapped tag and it allowed us to park on the yard. She was 82 at the time. We bought a collapsible wheelchair. She doesn't typically use a wheelchair but it was perfect for I-Day. She would not have made it all day without it. We hung all kind of stuff off the wheelchair and I had fun pushing it around - we made it fun. She wasn't going to miss it and this worked out well for us. Oh, we were there at 530AM and didn't leave until after they formed up and marched into Bancroft. It was hot and we certainly did all of the indoor activities and brought water... Hopefully we drive her car again in two years for commissioning week.

We used a wheelchair. It was great for the long hauls. The short hauls, GD would walk. Gave him a place to sit. Gave us a place to hang bags.

Will I day be live streamed? I heard it was last year. Parents were wondering. Since I'll be going alone they wanted to see if it would be live so they could see it at home

Are there any medical supply stores in or near town to rent wheelchairs?

Asking for all who may need one.

Annapolis Healthcare Supplies, 117 Gibralter Ave. Just off West St. in a small office park.
www.annapolishealthcare.com
410-295-7300.

We have dropped off wheelchairs there to help out families of our sponsor mids.

Just like many town businesses, they see a spike in rentals for I-Day and Comm Week!
