I was wondering what was the best workout plan for getting physically fit for USNA. I have that workout thing that navy sends you to "condition the lower extremities" but it seems... how can i say this.. too simple? i was going to do the suggested running along with weight lifting and other things..

i found that book and i was wondering if anyone had read it.. and if it was worth buying and/or taking a look at it

thanks,

Will

Will,
I do not know anything about that book and am not sure it is really offical. But if you want the no nonsense real workout to get yourself in the best possible shape visit Stew Smith's website. He has designed workouts to max the CFA and to prepare yourself for plebe summer.

It might seem simple, but simple is best.

I have that book. The workout plan is the exact one they used for P.E.P during plebe summer of 1997. Stew Smith was actually one of the instructors and helped with the book!

Run. Lift some, and run.

Rest a day, and then run.

Run. Eat well, visit with friends.

And run.

join a long distance track team.. the best thing you can do.

simple really can be the best thing
I recommend pyramids you warm up max out then cool down
and always do pulls ups before push ups it makes the push ups more effective. but I swear by pyramids.

I mean its navy, your not gonna need to be in great shape.
You can only run so far before you fall off the boat.
Beat Navy!

unless you want to be an effective member of the USN or USMC....

but you will need to be in shape for when you have to run into a situation because the army screwed something up again.

hahaha i'll take that in good humor
navy folk can be pretty funny

Heres a question for current midshipmen or past, how much sprinting is involved at usna or is it distance for the most part?

Hi, I have something. Spoke with a mid class 2012 yesterday. She said it is endurance/distance. Like try to keep a pace of about a 7.5 minute mile for 3 to 5 miles and you'll be in the middle of the pack...hope that helps
