Should Plebes That Went Through NAPS Still Have to go Through I-Day?

Don't know if it's a stupid question, I was just curious because they already have a year of experience.
 
They report a day early - it's called I-Day minus 1 - because their processing is slightly less involved than for direct appointees. However, on I-Day + 1, they are all equals. DS is a plebe and in a recent letter he said there is a 22-year old NAPSter in his platoon who is older than the detailers.
 
DD had some great NAPSters in her Company. They tend to flock together on I-Day on Stribling and during PPW. If you get one as a roommate you are way ahead of the game. They also said they all hated Newport. Then again they had to be there in the winter.
 
NAPSters have a leg up PS and early in the ac year. By 6 weeks it's all a level playing field. And yes they should have to do all of PS. NAPS Indoc is very short and covers the very basics.
 
Brings to mind the final words from William Thackeray's masterpiece, Barry Lyndon...with apologies to the author;
“ LOA's, direct admits, recruited athletes, NAPSters, re-applicants.... they are all equal now”

(Sidebar: in another portion of the novel he says : “A lady who sets her heart upon a lad in uniform must prepare to change lovers pretty quickly, or her life will be but a sad one.”) Just saying.
 
Should a VMI transfer validate Plebe Year? He has a year of experience at a military university.

NAPSters know how to make a rack, prep a uniform, and march. That advantage disappears in about two weeks of Plebe Summer. If they're not priors, that's really all of their "leg up."

Knowing how to shine shoes and fold clothes doesn't make you a midshipman.

I CLEARLY said "I-Day" not all of plebe year. However, that's not a bad idea.
 
Your question doesn't really make sense. Why would they skip one day of plebe summer or plebe year? Did you mean validate plebe summer?

I would say no. While their challenge might not be polishing shoes, knowing certain rates, making racks, etc. their challenge will be as a team player. How well can they help others learn and succeed? That is a test of leadership and they can learn from that too and also be held accountable by the detailers. A good leader will put a lot of effort to help others and this will probably show...to the contrary, poor leadership probably will be noticed in a less desirable fashion.

I would suggest any NAPSTERS adopt this mindset and not the "been there, done that" one because I guarantee that if he/she doesn't, the detailers will eat that kind of person alive.

If so, would you agree that returning players of a varsity team should be allowed to skip the first day of try out? How would other players feel when certain players are getting treated differently.
 
Also NAPSters aren't really stars. They'll have their issues too, the least of which may be a sense if entitlement. We lost a number of my NAPS classmates.
 
Part of what makes elite groups cohesive is the "shared experience" of what they went through together. They grow together during PS, and I-Day is certainly part of that experience.
 
Absolutely not -- the more that the Napster does to fit in and avoid being treated any differently than anyone else, the better off they are...
Alot of the resentment (reference to "sense of entitlement" above) of the Napsters is the perception that they have it easier , are better connected, etc. There is some truth to that, one year of experience and knowing 20% of your classmates does make it easier, at least for the first couple weeks. The NAPSTER should use the knowledge to help his ./her classmates, and help them get through those first weeks. If the Plebe Detail gets the sense anyone is skating, they will apply pressure appropriately. BTW - it all balances out in the long term.
 
I think your suggestion doesn't make sense to us because it has already been done.

If we are specifically targeting I-Day, NAPSters already skip it. The inprocessing and uniform issue is done on I-Day minus one.

They loiter in their rooms on I-Day until the swearing in, then go to dinner with everyone else.

In my mind the most important part of the whole experience is the Bonding.
