Hello,

I am in a VERY unique situation. I am an upcoming senior. My stats are off the charts.... but there is a slight issue. Notice before continuing - You may not believe the following, but hey - just a guy trying to weigh his chances. No point in lying on an anonymous forum right? Provide your honest input!

SAT : 800 Math 800 CR (1600 CRM)- perfect score
Class rank : 1/629
GPA UW : 4.0/4.0
W : 5.5/6.0
Varsity Soccer for 3 years, football for 4 years, and cross country for 3 years.
450 Hours of community service.
President of NHS, Officer of Beta club, and president of 4 other small clubs. Involved in about 4 more clubs but no leadership positions.

Pretty crazy right? Heres the catch. I have gone to jail 4 times. The charges are severe - I dont want to talk about it, but it may have involved sexual actions. It was actual jail once, but juvie 3 times for more of a vivid sight.
ROTC Scholarship - instant shot or total flunk?

Also... I want to do ROTC because I want to show people that I am redeemed and I want to serve my country. I also want to do this as a back up in case I dont get scholarships to the schools I am applying to anyways.

As a former Prosecutor (Civilian & Military), I would say total flunk. JMHO. Very good stats. But you'll have to disclose/sign a waiver releasing all of the information and depending on the nature of the offenses, I don't believe they'll take a chance on you. Especially with multiple offenses. Not knowing the actual nature of the offenses or your age (if you're 18 yet), if they're of a sexual nature (and depending on the State) you may still be on probation, have to register as a sex offender, and they may/may not come off your record when you turn 18. Some states extend the probation (especially for multiple offenses) past your 18th birthday and you're kept on supervision until you're 21.

Honest input?
As a US citizen, I do not want you.
Your obvious lack of morals could be "problematic" on the battlefield.

Keep walking.

I was wondering the same thing. Assuming this is legit, I wish you the best. Growing up can be tough and kids sometimes are born into horrible situations. But you are the only one who steers your actions. The military may not take you. Maybe later, after you have done some college, kept a clean record, continued with stats that are "off the charts", well, who knows. My point is, just don't give up trying.

I also wonder if this is legit - For one thing, NHS also has a moral clause - not just good grades - for membership, at least in our district. If this young person was in jail/juvie that many times, how did they have time to participate in so many sports?
If it is a legit post, I do believe, if memory serves me correctly, that there are questions asking about criminal past on the AROTC scholarship application. So...wouldn't it be a fail?
If this is legit, and you have turned your life around - best of luck to you.

Greats stats, but major red flags with red flares going off too. It's your decision to apply or not. You said you have been charged many times, the military does care about charges and convictions. Not sure about the sexual part mention, but remember the military has a huge push to end sexual assault in the military. This could be a huge issue along with all the other charges. It could also be an issue for regular schools as many colleges have rules banning students from campus with certain charges, especially those related to sexual assault. You would have a lot to answer to and the chances of obtaining a clearance are very much at risk. Being an officer is more than grades. It is about character, integrity, decision making... You have demonstrated a major lack of these items, what has changed? Not looking for answers here, but they are answers you would need to know if you decide to apply.

You need to prepare for a plan B, I suspect with the current climate of the military, it is probably a no.

Hi, the timing of my jailings were in a way, convenient. Of course I would want for them not to have ever occurred, but considering that they did, the time frame waa alright. It happened after I joined NHS, so there was no problem there, and after the first jailing I was called in and they had this huge meeting about me where I convinced them to let me stay. I was elected president, since I am sort of popular, but uh - after serving for 1.5 weeks, the position was taken away and I was thrown out after my second jailing. Needless to say I was destroyed, but hey, facts are facts- I was nhs president for a time.

Sports- during my frwshman year, I got together with all of my coaches and told them straight up what I wanted to do with sports and how it would be impossible without accommodation. They all decided it was OK to look the other way during some practices concerning my presence so I could attend other practices.

If you want an honest opinion then you'll need to be honest as well, what were the charges and convictions, without knowing that information nobody will be able to give even an educated guess. As you said, "No point in lying on an anonymous forum right?"

What concerns me, as a law enforcement professional for 30 years, is the fact that this young person has four crimes of a similar nature. This qualifies him as a "serial XYZ" (insert crime) and shows a lack of reformation. Sorry, but the expression is "three strikes and yer out!" and you have four strikes already.
If I was on a panel reviewing your case, I would not give you the award.

Questions for you to consider- Have you been found guilty of a felony? Will your convictions prohibit you from receiving any federal aid? Or admission to a college? You need to get your stuff straight pretty quick or you will face some harsh consequences.

To be honest - I dont know about the admission to college thing. I have been really closed up about this whole thing and havent done too much research on this. I just come home and sulk in my room... it worries me but at the same time I really dont want to know... and it takes a lot of willpower to go through this thread. Yes I have been found guilty of a felony due to my sexual actions.
As to what happened, I will not share. I told you all that it was sexual, and that I am not willing to discuss it any further.

There is just a big difference between being convicted of a felony and being found guilty of a misdemeanor as far as ability to qualify for financial aid, and I am assuming ROTC and possibly even admission to college. I would call Admissions at a college you are interested in and ask them that question: am I admissable to your college? There are many on-line options for college degrees these days, they may have different admissions standards if a regular college is a no-go.
Perhaps someone else who knows for sure will chime in, but I think Contracting with ROTC with a felony is a no-go.

Since you were found guilty of a felony I am guessing the military in any shape or form is a no go. The military is really cracking down and has undergone huge changes to end sexual assault, clean up the reporting process and change the culture of supporting victims. Not sure of your specifics, but guessing with this enormous red flag, the military is not going to be an option at any level. I think due to it being sexual in nature you are going to also have to do some research on universities also. Many universities have policies not allowing students with certain crimes. Some have total bans and others have bans to receiving on campus housing. Good luck in your path forward, I hope it is full of good choices and being a productive citizen.
