Special Forces

Trying to guess your question:
One cannot graduate from USMA and join the Special Forces, unlike USNA grads to SEALs.
Go to 82nd Airborne then 7th Ranger Regiment then.....
 
I've heard a lot about this, but I'm not sure how much is true.

Basically, what I've been told is that if your dream is to be in the Special Forces, then maybe West Point isn't for you. As an officer, you won't be the one kicking in doors, but rather telling people which door to kick in. Maybe consider enlisting if your dream is to be a Special Forces Operator.

What I was told, again I'm not sure about the validity, is that you might be able to make the SF Team, but you wouldn't spend a lot of time there before getting pulled to serve on company or battalion staff.
 
Special forces has many roles, a small part is direct action (kicking in doors).

Many special forces teams work as trainers with foreign militaries. Some even work to support forces working against a nation's government.

Teams are small, so a Team Captain will be very involved.

You cannot apply for SF selection until you are a 1LT (P). Infantry is a great branch to commission into if your aim is to be an SF officer. Not required though and SF officers come from many branches.

Keep in mind, being a door kicker is young person's thing. Longer you stay in the Army, harder for you to stay as a door kicker - both rank and physically.
 
Neither of which are Special Forces. There is only one Special Forces, and that is the SF branch in the Army. Full stop. There are myriad special operations forces, and they cover roles as exciting as what you see in the movies and as mundane as making radio advertisements.
