Early Decision Deadline Question

I just finished my application to The Citadel, but have not sent it in yet because I am afraid that if I send it in so early and before the early decision deadline that I will be forced to attend if accepted under the early decision plan. Do I need to wait until after the early decision deadline to send my application so that I am not locked in if I am accepted?

I would call Admissions and ask your question. I know in the past my kids sent in applications to different colleges before the ED deadline, but were not applying ED. I think there was a box to check on at least some of them. Seems like we got all of our applications in quite early just to get them done over the summer, but none of them were for ED.

Hey There, I am attending The Citadel this fall and will be a knob. I, like you, applied early. All this means is you will find out way faster! I would definitely encourage you to go ahead and send it (I applied on the opening day, and received my acceptance package September 4th!) Hope this helps and good luck with your decision!

Congratulations on your acceptance and willingness for something as challenging as The Citadel! It's such a nice part of this app to find many people with the desire for something more (challenges). And I did go ahead and apply, I am just waiting for my guidance counselor to be back at my school so that I can get her to sign off on the forms. Do you know if they begin reviewing my app without these forms, or is not having these sent until about next Tuesday going to make me have to wait longer?

I am glad you are so on top of things! They will definitely go ahead and look at your forms, and in a few days (or a week or two, can't quite remember) you will get an email from a counselor from the Citadel who will be handling your application process! If i can ask, are you looking for a military career or just planning to attend the The Citadel?

I am nost definetly looking for a military career. It is my dream to become a military officer and to make a long career out of the military. I am applying for ROTC scholarships as we speak. May I ask you the same, and also what branch of ROTC you will be doing? I would like to do Marine option NROTC or AROTC because believe it or not, part of my dream is to be a grunt ( I feel as though part of my duty should be to do the dirty work). Although if I could do anything, I would love to be a part of something elite that goes above and beyond the call of duty such as Marine Recon or the Army Airborne Rangers

Preparation for these elite groups is also why I definetly want to be a part of ROTC at somewhere such as The Citadel rather than a civilian college. I feel that they can open my options and give me more skills that can help me in the service than any civilian college

I'm glad to hear it! I am going on a 4 year Army ROTC scholarship and like I said with the Citadel, apply as soon as you can! I applied for both Army and Navy but ultimately chose the Army route. I am so excited for you! The Citadel is a special place, definitely take advantage of your Pre-Knob visit! As you probably already know, the ROTC scholarship process is long and tedious, so stay on top of it and try to get everything (mostly the APFT test and the Interview with a military science professor) out of the way as quick as you can!

Congrats on your scholarship! That is a huge achievement! I hope to achieve the same. And thank you for the encouragement, it truly means a lot. The only reason I haven't registered for a pre-knob visit for applied candidates is because the schedule hasn't come out yet! I can't wait to be able to make it down to Charleston! Additionally, I have also almost compelted the AROTC scholarship application (all except for the APFT and the interview lol). If you wouldn't mind, i would greatly appreciate it if you could possibly send me some of your credentials (such as grades, SATs, etc.) for applying for the scholarship, just so I can try to see how I compare.

Not a problem! Keep working on that scholarship I'm sure you will get there! I Took the SAT twice, with my better score being a 1220 (I was trying to get into the USMA and couldn't get it any higher) You will be fine at the Citadel with a score in 1100's. My cumulative high school GPA: was around a 3.9 And just for knowledge on the APFT I think they look for the minimum is 60 sit-ups 60 push ups and under a 15 minute two mile (obviously the better you do the higher the percentage of chance you actually get the scholarship)

Thabk you for sending me that! So do you mean that an SAT in the 1100's will be fine for the scholarship? And also was that GPA weighted or unweighted? And I am also applying to USMA as well as USNA!

Also if you wouldn't mind, I would like to start a private message conversation with you about the Pre-Knob visit

Hi - I am a volunteer alumnus who works with The Citadel Admissions office - your question concerning scholarships caught my eye. If your SAT scores in math and verbal are not well over 1200, and you are seeking an academic scholarship - consider taking the SATs again in October this Fall. Each application is considered on its own and applying early and developing a relationship with the Admissions Office can help you. But academic scholarships are difficult to achieve. The Citadel only considers the highes scores on the SAT - so taking them again won't hurt you if you score lower on math and verbal sections. My thoughts

biggest advantage to applying early is better chance of academic scholarships, they disappear fast as the new academic year starts and applications start rolling in. Also once you matriculate chances of getting a 2 or 3 year ROTC scholarship are better than for a 4 year which usually requires a 3.7/1250 minimum. Persistence is the key, if you don't qualify for an academic scholarship as a freshman its still possible to get one as an upperclassman.

Thanks guys! I am definetly taking the SAT again and I will I am definetly not giving up!

I would suggest applying to other SMC's as well. Have a plan B. Also, I have heard that Norwich provides some additional scholarship money for the things the AROTC may not cover. Being out of state, this would be a nice thing for the Payee. Good Luck!

^ Norwich is awesome with it.
If you have a ROTC scholarship you also will receive the ID white scholarship that covers room and board.
The only major thing you are on the hook for is $4,000 the first year for uniforms, but it will be reimburst through college.
