Does anyone have information on the 2019 Shoulder Board Ceremony for Swabs? Date? Time? Do the swab have time to meet with family afterwards or not? Any info would be great.

I don't have the information you're asking for, but honestly, it's not big enough to warrant going, unless you're in the immediate area. First, it's nice getting those shoulder boards, because you feel more like a cadet…. until you realize that you're still a swab (and a 4/c cadet) and the rest of the year will suck. Now….. that first diagonal stripe, that is a nice change.

I don't remember there being any parents when we got our shoulder boards, and I certainly don't remember there being much fun surrounding it. It was nice to end Swab Summer though, that's for sure. Now, Mystic….. that's something worth going to if you're in the area and Swabs will have time with their families. Otherwise, I'd just wait for parents weekend. It's less of a tease and your kid will actually be able to enjoy it.

I can check on the date for the shoulder boards if you wish. Like LITS said, if you live more than an hour or so away it probably isn't worth you time. It lasts about 15 minutes, and most likely you will not get to spend any time with your swab. Mystic for this year has past.

Parent's Weekend or Homecoming Weekend (unless your cadet has other obligations) might make more sense. After Swab Summer, the mantra will be 'Your cadet is the best source of information'. He / She will be able to provide you some guidance as to what makes best sense.

There was an excellent reply made to a similar question in one of the academy-related FB groups - "Not every event at the academy is meant for us as parents to attend as much as we would like for them to be."

I'm traveling right now, but will check. Rule of thumb is it is on the Monday of CAP week. Other rule of thumb is Semper Gumby.

The Change of Watch & Shoulder Board Ceremony is scheduled for 1250-1350 on Monday, August 17th. The Class of 2019 Reception immediately follows in Crown Park, but the cadets should have a few minutes to spend with family afterwards or at least while transiting to the reception.
