BCT ends

"As cold waters a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far " . Proverbs 25:25.

This is quite an achievement in the lives of these young men and women. Six months ago it was about getting in. Six weeks ago it was about surviving the cadre. Today, they know they work and thrive as a team and are part of something bigger than themselves. They know they have deep reserves to draw on in times of trial . Even if "bloodied", they are unbowed. They have what it takes to face the challenges of tomorrow.

I salute the Air Force and the cadre for an excellent job. The letters we have received these six weeks show that they have successfully conveyed the mission of the Air Force and transformed individuals into effective units and future leaders. It is difficult to break down individuality without damaging the spirit, which as a parent was my greatest fear. Instead what I have seen is a heightened sense of service, purpose, and motivation, in the face of adversity. As my DS put it, "the reasons for staying are different than the reasons for coming." They are learning Service before self, commraderie, and an appreciation for life: the ability to smile, to work, to look around, to enjoy a meal, and to study God's word. Freedom through truth and self-discipline. Leadership through obedience.

Like on this forum, I too am learning--not just about USAFA of the military, but about what matters most in life. The highest love is sacrificial, giving, and noble. May each of us, and our children, continue to grow in this way. I am so proud of the Class of 2019 and the cadre and leaders who support them!

Carry on!

Does anyone know when we were hear from our cadets? Do they get their phones back after A-Day? Thank you! So proud of our Class of 2019! Go Falcons!

They will have them on A Day. Classes begin on the 6th and phone privileges are squadron specific so there is no way to know if they will be able to keep them. They will be able to use email tho.

Luckily, this is no longer the case. Four Degrees will get and keep their phones without the concern of privileges being revoked. The thought process behind this is that (for the average cadet) YOU, as the parent, are paying for the service and we do not want your money to go to waste.

Also, if like last year, they should have their phones before A Day. DS had his at least the day before, so we were communicating (mainly by text) until the morning of the parade.

OH , thank you! Can't wait to hear from him! And emails, too! WOO HOO!

I don't think the cadets are allowed skype though. Has that changed?

Google Hangouts is what we use. Recommend staying away from Oovoo (may be off the list now, anyway.)

Screamin' Demons :)

Yes, my DS was in that squadron as well. He was pretty excited about. He said his flight (I think, that is a subdivision of a squadron, correct?) went from literally dead last at the start of BCT to second in the entire group by the end of BCT-1. The only one ranked ahead of his was another demon flight.

Yes each BCT squad is comprised of 5 flight which are equivalent to their academic year squad. My DS is CS-20 called the Tough Twenty Trolls!

I had the privilege of working with Demons during 1st BCT and was stoked to hear they kept the title of best squadron....to those of y'all on here with a son or daughter in Demons, you have some great young people and it was awesome to work for them.

Hey guys! We got our computers today and many squads are getting their phones back so hopefully everyone should be hearing from their almost-cadets soon!
I tell you guys what, that feeling of marching up the Core Values ramp after Jack's was not to be beat! For anyone who was there, thank you all for cheering us on!

If only I knew this sooner! I would have had you find my DS and say I know your Dad I expect a lot from you and then just walk away just to see his face! But at last I know you had a serious job to do but it would have been classic!

Baileydb you did come back! I know you have a lot on your plate and won't be able too active during the year but keep in touch and keep imparting your wisdom as you go through the next few years! You first hand experience of life at the AFA will always trump any info we can provide!

And glad you beat the beast! Everyone here knew you would.

I know you're friends with RogersCO -- have her come back, too, just to let us know how she's doing.
