Advice Needed on Missing Quilt

A parent has volunteered and created a quilt for the parents of Jack Lindsey. The class of 2018 c4c who tragically died in a skiing accident this past winter. The back of the quilt was sent to the USAFA to be passed from squadron to squadron for all the cadets to sign before the final assembly. This quilt has disappeared somewhere within the Academy. It is was last seen somewhere in the 20 squadron level back in the early summer/late spring.

If there are any USAFA cadets or PP reading this, could you please ask friends and other cadets if they have seen this backing?

A wing wide email was requested, but this item was not deemed important enough to send one. So any help in tracking this down would be greatly appreciated.

You can message me with details if found.

Thank you all for your assistance!

I'm sure you've thought of this already, but consider using the plethora of Facebook groups to get the word out. I sure hope the quilt shows up soon.

Thanks, we had already been using the various groups and having parents reach out to their cadets. Still no word. I hope it is found.

This just in from the quilt lady, and I am sharing it here, hoping something will finally come of it.

"Dear Friends, I made a backing for the Jack Lindsey Memorial quilt that was to be signed by every one in the Wing. All classes. It has been missing somewhere in the USAFA squadrons. The idea was to have it be passed to each squadron to sign. I will be at USAFA Arnold Hall on Friday of Parent's Weekend, and my hope is to find this quilt back and get everyone who hasn't yet signed it , to come and do so. I would really like to attach the front and the back together and present it to the Lindsey family in a timely manner. Thank you all so much for your assistance. I have called ALO's and even wrote the Wing commander, but have had no responses and no luck. PLEASE look in all the squadrons for this quilt back. I will also post the front so you can see what it will look like. A lot of love, work, and people contributed to this gift for the Lindsey family. Thank you again! ( The USAFA Quilt lady)"

I personally don't understand why this hasn't been found yet. This suggests to me that it was stolen, lost or misplaced. Any of which implies a casual disregard for the meaning and symbolism of the quilt. This quilt was about honoring a fellow cadet. I am at a loss for words.

It looks like the cadets are looking for the quilt now. Maybe look in storage?

I'm not sure about 'casual disregard'. The cadets I know are all stand-up guys and gals. However, I totally get your frustration and disappointment.

This is such a wonderful thing you are doing, making this quilt. I never met the young man, but I had a cadet in his squadron, and when I heard the news, it broke my heart , and I have several kids that were up there skiing that day. One of them was in his squadron.
I keep a private facebook page for my cadets that I sponsor and I get to know. I will send out an SOS immediately, and also text some of the AOCs I know and one of my cadets who just graduated, but is stationed at the Academy. If I hear anything back I will post something immediately

Thank you for reaching out and helping us look. I am not the quilter, only the messenger :) . If you would like to meet her, she will be at a booth during parent's weekend. She is a very kind, generous and talented lady. Her quilts are quite wonderful.

The maker of the quilt is offering a $200 reward if the backing is found. All cadets please check your personal and squadron storage areas. If found, you can message me here, and I can get you in touch with the quilt maker.

I don't know how it works but there is a way to have emails approved that are sent to the entire wing, I can try to see if I can have this picture and details sent to the wing. I'll keep you posted on if I can get it approved.

That's sweet Rogers, but the cadet wing has already been contacted. :) There's a lot of logistics with getting a wing wide email out & I wouldn't want you to stick your neck out for this (as a doolie!)

The frustration is that the CW, AOCs, parent liaison and other PP have been contacted, but word is getting out very slowly.
Doolies wouldn't have been around when the quilt was last seen, so that might be the reason you haven't heard about it.

Thank you for your offer. A wing wide was attempted before but it was deemed not official thus not allowed under a pervious wing command. If you mention it to your friends and coach that would be helpful. We are trying word of mouth. We have contacted parents in Facebook groups and they are reaching out to their cadets. Hopefully a reward will help the message spread further and inspire some of the sophomores, juniors and seniors to dig into their storage areas and squadron storage area. Again, thank you for your concern and your offer to help. We all appreciate it!

Ohh darn it, I will pass it on he best I can! I posted it on the class of 2019 facebook asking that everyone put the word out in their squads.

You might want to let them know that a backing is a piece of cloth....Who knows what they are looking for...

The picture is being distributed by parents reaching out to their cadets. Hopefully, the picture will clarify to any cadets that a quilt backing is also of cloth if they don't already realize that.

Any cadets out there know anyone in CS26? We have confirmed sightings in CS25 but nothing in CS26 or higher at this point in time. We are using the parent network here to gather what we can, and this limits our intelligence. So if any one can reach out to CS25's and CS26's AMT, AOC or squad com to see what they know, that would be great. Thank you for any help you cadets can provide.
