Hi everyone,
Another newbie question. My son has his PMS interview at the closest school to us, but it is not on his list of schools he wants to attend. Can he change the schools he ranked to include this school so that the PMS can see his application and then change it back? He has a good reason why he does not want to attend this school, but wanted to do his PMS interview there. He will have no problem explaining this and the PMS already said he did not mind. Thanks! Learning so much...too much. I prefer drinking from a glass, not a firehose.....

Definitely can change schools. DS early on in the process was gung-ho fascinated by Texas A&M. Had it #1 on his list. He was offered a scholarship, and when he went to visit A&M (not from Texas, had never been to Texas) didn't enjoy it as much as he thought he would.

He was able to complete a form (very similar, if not the same as) below to change preference.

Thanks for the response, but I don't think that is what I am asking. My son is not a scholarship winner. He is completing his application and waiting for his PMS interview. I am asking about changing the ranking of the schools on his application. Thanks!

If it's NROTC, he can change his school order on his application anytime he wants and more than once. My son did not get accepted to his first choice school so he edited the order of schools and had a scholarship the next week (which I think was purely coincidence but he was awarded the scholarship to his new number 1). He made the school change mid March. Scholarship was awarded Mar. 28th. His application was wrapped up before Labor day if that helps with timing.

I don't think he needs to worry about that right now. My DS still had Texas A&M as his #1 choice before getting the scholarship, and then pursued the change after being awarded the scholarship. Now his case may be unique, as he had his interview on a Thursday afternoon last October, and was called out of class the next day to speak with the interviewing officer instructing him to meet with the Regional Commander the following Tuesday, where he was awarded his scholarship. (He was told that that only occurs with 7 students in the region of Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia.)

Thank you, that is what I needed to know. Appreciate it. In this case, he would change the ranking only to allow thte PMS at a local school to see his application prior to the interview. After the interview, He will change it back to the original rankings. Many thanks.

Totally not necessary. Both my kids were interviewed by the the PMS at San Diego State University yet the school wasn't on their list of schools at all

My son's interview was done at Great Lakes Naval Base so we never went to a school for an interview. I was just speaking to the whole "how often can I change my school list" part of the question.

Best of luck to your son!

I understand. I was referring to the OP asking about changing the ranking of schools as if it would have an effect on the interview score.

My DS called the ROO at his first choice school prior to setting up his interview to get advice. While he wanted to interview at his top school, it was across the country and was not feasible to go there. DS wondered about having a Skype interview with the PMS of the top choice school. After consulting with the ROO, he decided to just have the interview done at the closest university to our home, which was not one of the school choices listed on his application. DS was asked the question during his interview as to why he was not interested in attending THAT school. He had a good answer ready for the question. He ended up getting the scholarship during the 1st board last year to his top 3 school choices.

Did I read this right? Your son doesn't want to go the PMS's school, but wants to include it temporarily in his rankings before the interview so that the PMS will think he does, and then after the interview wants to exclude it. And he is already aware that for the sake of convenience he can interview with a PMS at a school not on his list?

NO, not at all. My son has been clear on his intentions. My original question was not answered, and then the thread has gone elsewhere. See my original post. The PMS he is interviewing with cannot see the application because the school is not on his list. My son has very good reasons why it is not. The PMS wants to see the application before the interview. I was asking if the rankings can be changed and how often. My son wanted to know if he can temporarily place the school on the list so that the PMS can read his application, then change it back to his original choices. That is what he is doing. The PMS has been totally professional. My son has good reasons why he is interviewing at a school that is not on his list.

The way the system (CCIMM) works now that PMS should be able to see your son's application. I can see every application in the system. If that PMS/ROO can't figure it out have them call the ROO at Clarkson and he will help them out.

Clarksonarmy will set this right if I am wrong, but PMS officers are on tours of duty, currently serving at college and will leave when tour is up. 3-4 years? So while PMS no doubt wants to increase quality, and quantity of ROTC battalion they are leading they are professionals who understand ROTC interview process, and that applicants may have solid reasons to go elsewhere. Note you are taking their time for interview, but other PMS may be doing same for applicants to their college. The ROOS who should be your main contact are in different position working at the battalion, may be retired or reserve officers? Again Clarkson or other ROO on forum can set this straight.

Of course this may all be different if you end up interviewing with a PMS serving at his alma mater and you can see his college mascot logo on his arm, and he asks you to join him in college fight song first. (This is a joke.)

Thanks for this. Clearly, the PMS does not know this, or he would not have suggested changing the schools.

Agree, and thanks.
