i know a lot of you who will attend parents weekend are either on your way or already at the academy. For you seasoned parents and cadets, you know all the activities going on. And the climax of your visit, before you get to spend a weekend with your cadet, is the falcon football game. Of course, with any good football game, comes a great tailgate. There will be lots of tailgates between all the squadrons and the fanatic football fans. Hope those of you at the game can swing by Thudagate and say hi. There will be plenty of food and drink and a chance to have a central meeting place for members of this forum to possibly meet each other. Thudgate is large, so you shouldn't have a hard time finding it. On the south end zone of the stadium, look towards the parking lot to the south east. You'll see a big RV. That's the "Thudmobile". You should also so the thudgate flag and old glory flying next to it. Come and say hi if you get the change. See you there. Cheer on our Falcons.

"Kick A$$ Falco(n)"

BTW, Thudgate has the classiest people and keeps the focus on the mission of USAFA, never forgetting the heroes who are serving or have served, and supporting the the amazing Falcon football team and the cadet wing. Take time prior to the game to visit, met new friends, and fail staying dry-eyed during the toast to the host. Long live Thudgate.

p.s. I've only attended once. I'm so glad I did.

We will be attending our very first USAFA football game. Even way back in 08-09 when we were far more active on the USCGA forum, I'd lurk here and glean some pretty great pearls of wisdom from Christcorp and company. Will stop by to say hey and put a face to the name!

Can't tell folks enough about Thudgate! It's run by a high school classmate of mine; his father was an AF 4-star, killed in a tragic plane crash. He puts on an amazing tailgate, with the help of friends...and a nicer group of pro-ALL academies you won't find! EVERYONE is welcome!!!

Gotta ask... What is the story behind the name Thudgate?

As flieger mentioned, our close friend Mike, (Yes, another mike), his father was a 4 star general. His name was General George Simler. He flew during WWII all the way through Vietnam and died in a plane crash trainer in 1972. One of his assignments was as Director of Athletics at the academy. He helped develop the Commander in Chief trophy and playoff system between air force, navy, and army. When stationed in Japan, as commander, they transitioned to the new F-105 thunderchief. AKA "THUD". One of his favorite planes. Hence, the name for THUDGATE. In remembrance of him, the commander in chief trophy that he started, the academy, the falcons, and all the men and woman who served, are serving, and who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

That's the reader's digest version.

Please don't ask me the story of "Weed". (Jeremiah Weed). That doesn't have a reader's digest version. But if you come to Thudgate, I promise you can have some. (It's what we ALWAYS Toast with). And we toast all the men and women in our great air force. Those before, those now, those gone, our cadets, their parents, etc. We are ONE FAMILY. See you there.

CC thanks for explaination! Somehow in my civilian mind..the word THUD as associated with anything "flying" probably was not good....or had an explanation!
Will try to sick my head in the door (!)/ area as part of my already busy pregame visits!!
Everyone travel safe! GO AF!

Still looking for ThudGate East to coincide with AF/Navy game October 3rd.

Actually, many members of the "Thudgate" family do go to the away Navy/Army games, and do set up a Mini-Thudgate. Plus our locals from the area who can't usually make it out here.

So, I will get you info on Thudgate Navy if you plan to go to the game.

P.S. On a side note... Because you're such a great Steelers fan......

What does a Pittsburgh Steeler's fan do after they WIN the super-bowl??????

Answer: Turn off the X-box and go to sleep.

Hee Hee. You know I love ya. But I heard the joke on ESPN and thought of good friend. LOL. Take care. (And go steelers). Mike...

We always need help. This game starts at 1:15pm; Thudgate will start and start setting up, around 9am. We like to have 3 to 3 1/2 hours of tailgating before the game. Some of us will be there a little before 9am.

And for those who have never been to a Thudgate, we have a lot of food. (Our own Service Academy Forum Admin) is helping sponsor this Thudgate, as he has in the past; as well as some future games like Army and San Jose home games. (THANKS TacticalNuke). But besides a lot of food, we have all the drinks you can imagine. Soda, Water, Beer, and a FULLY STOCKED BAR. When i say FULL STOCK, I mean FULL STOCK.

For those into social media, here's the thudgate facebook page:

Q: Why do pilots drink Jeremiah Weed?

A: They ran out of kerosene and were saving the Jet A1 for the trip home.

Cheers and be sure to drink the Weed cold!

ChristCorp... that's pretty funny.

I think where my one son is posted they are planning a big "Beat Navy" party, though they are about an hour or so from Annapolis.

I wish I was there! Dh is there with DS. I came for A-Day, so I stayed home with DS#2 for his football games this weekend. I am jealous and on the verge of tears at moments, but mostly I am good with my decision to go to A-Day and not Parents Weekend. The couple of hours I had on A-day, just me and him, were some of the best of my life! Parents enjoy every moment! Maybe I'll go for the AF vs Army game in Nov.

Jeremiah weed is something that I know some fighter pilots use to toast a fallen pilot. I'm sure there are many many ways that others use Jeremiah Weed for. I just know about the fighter pilot use.

There's also a saying that people will say sometimes near a fallen a
Pilot.

" Throw a nickel in the grass, save a fighter pilot's ass"

I would love to try and stop by Thudgate, & meet some of you all if that's okay

Just finished thudgate at the game now giving a shout to meeting CC, batmom, and kirkmanj! Go Falcons!

Made my first one too!
Great, heartfelt, toast.. Was proud to be part of it!

ps Full stock ...meant.. Full stock! Dang, I thought I was back in the SEC for a moment!!

I'd like to say Thudgate parents weekend was great. Got to see some forum members. Had some great food and drink. Thanks again to our own service academy forum for helping sponsor Thudgate. I'm glad everyone had a good time and for the new members who came to their first parents weekend, I hope you had a chance to see your son or daughters new extended family (air force). They are in very good hands.

For those who are local, Thudgate is every home game, and a couple of away games. See you next Saturday night. Late game. Thudgate will start around 4 or 5. Later.
