AFOQT Scores for EA Package

Good afternoon, all!

I'm a prior-E in AFROTC, and my package for an EA goes up this winter. Technically, I'm a 250, but my 100 year was waived by the Det/CC. I'm non-scholarship, non-tech major, still deciding if I want to go rated or non-rated...

When I first started doing the paperwork to separate from AD and join ROTC, the Capt I was talking to kept converting my AFOQT scores to an SAT-equivalent score. My question is, can/will cadre put my SAT-equivalent score based on my AFOQT scores for my EA package if it's better than my high school SAT score? It's been a good five years since I've taken the SAT, so I'd much rather the AFOQT scores be used.

Yes. My SAT score was 1210. My SAT equivalent from my AFOQT was 1480. Cadre took the AFOQT score.

Yes like above said afoqt will be used, if I am not mistaken if you take the AFOQT before field training that is always used.

You do not go up for the EA board this winter it usually happens some time in mid Feb and when you find out could be as early as end of March and as late as the end of April/beginning of May. They will take you AFOQT usually 100% of the time. And before you choose between rated and non-rated make sure you do your research. That's exactly what I've told my 200/250/500s this semester. You never know maybe after you do your research you might change your mind or it might make you want to do it more.

I'm with WilB: I'd definitely do some research before choosing rated or non-rated. Last year selection for non tech, non rated was low, I believe 17% (correct me if I'm wrong). They love the tech guys for the non rated slots a majority of the time. All the scholarship cadets that were Mech Eng, Chemistry, Physics, etc. that wanted to be engineers and space ops and what not got those slots. No one in my Det that was non tech, non rated got EA slots last term. I'm a non-tech AS200 wanting to go rated so I figured I'd let you know. Best of luck to us!

AFOQT SAT-E counts for 25% of your EA package. The AFOQT SAT-E comes from the Academic Aptitude which is comprised of the first five portions: verbal analogies, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, math knowledge, reading comprehension. If you have ACT/SAT scores, then they will take the better SAT-E between the ACT/SAT and AFOQT AA.

I think you're thinking of 2 years ago...last year's selection rate for EA was up in the 70s-80s I think, but thank you all for the info

17% was only for non-tech/non-rated. Overall was about 80% last year, no problem!

From AFROTCI 36-2011 Cadet Operations:

8.6.1.2. Standardized testing requirements: The Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) is not a disqualifier for POC selection; however, the Scholastic Aptitude TestEquivalency (SAT-E) is part of the OM used for selection. Therefore, a cadet must have at least one of the three standardized tests (AFOQT, SAT, ACT) to be competitive. Since the selection algorithm chooses the highest of the scores entered into WINGS, (only the most recent AFOQT scores can be considered), detachments should strive to enter as many as possible.
8.6.1.2.1. The SAT-E can be established using either the SAT, ACT, or the AFOQT- AA scores. The highest SAT-E will be used for OM calculation.
8.6.1.2.2. Verify the applicant’s most recent scores as they appear in WINGS and on the Student Management Roster (SMR) since this is the score of record. Contact AFROTC/RRFA if there is a discrepancy. Chapter 4 of this instruction outlines policies for a cadet who fails to achieve the minimum passing scores.
