How do they select candidates for junior cvw's? Is it from STEM camp visit?

My son applied to the STEM program twice and was not selected, but received a CVW invite last fall (junior year). He had obviously not even begun his application, so they used the STEM application data for the invite.

I did not attend or apply for STEM but received an invite to CVW in April of my Junior Year. I had submitted a request for information with my name, school, GPA, etc. as well as a NASS application. I was selected for NASS about three weeks to a month after CVW invite came.

I would definitely urge you to attend! It was a great experience and a great representation of plebe year. NASS was an indicator of the rigors of plebe summer, which was also helpful, but CVW really was an opportunity to attend classes and ask questions/converse one on one with a plebe.

Sorry to piggy-back off this thread, but my DS is going to CVW next month. Any advice on what to expect, what to do, or what not to do based upon your CVW experiences???

I got there on Thursday night, went to a brief, and then was assigned a Midshipman (plebe) who I'd be "dragging" with. I had received a form earlier that month asking if there was a specific company or plebe I wanted to be paired up with, so I chose a friend of mine. I ended up getting paired up with another girl in her company, not her. At first I was a little disappointed, but quickly learned that there were only 8 girls in her company, and they all just hung out together, so it was no big deal. We went back to their room and I saw my friend and hung out. You're DS should bring something to do because the Mids have a ton of homework and you don't want them to feel like they have to entertain you. They went to bed really late, because they had so much work. Then the next morning, at 6:00 ish, they got up and get ready. The girl I was actually assigned to was a Varsity athlete and was super stressed and busy, so I ended up going to classes and spending the day with the friend of mine. You get to go to classes and eat lunch with your Mid. Lunch is a more formal meal where they sit down at a table with their squad; breakfast and dinner were more relaxed and buffet style. After classes, my Mid had practice, and I had made plans with a girl on a team I want to join to go to practice with her. We arranged a meeting spot, and then my friend dropped me off with her and I got to practice. That night, I got back together with my assigned company mates and got dinner. Then, all the plebes and drags (candidates) played Volleyball outside. We went to bed around 11, and then the next morning the visit was over. Hope that helped, you can feel free to PM me with any questions!

Thank you lef9820. Sorry for my ignorance but how does one PM? Can you send me a message and I will respond.

I think they also use NASS applications for junior CVW invites.
