Hello! This is my first time using this forum.

I have decided to join the NROTC program at SDSU by becoming
a college programmer. However, I was wondering how I am able to
specifically do so. I know that when you apply for the scholarship and
you receive it, you have to go to orientation or something like that.
However, since I want to join it as a college programmer, do I just wait
till the start freshman school year and apply and signup then?
or am I supposed to do something in the summer between the end of senior
year and freshman year at SDSU and sign up? Some clarification would be nice.
Thank you!

No. You should contact them in the late spring before you report to school, say May or June. (Your best bet is early May before the class graduates and cadre disappears.) They will mail you a packet with all the information you need to report to orientation. They'll want you there too.

When you say "They", you're referring to the NROTC unit at the university I want to attend, right?

I am pretty certain Kinnem means the NROTC unit.

NROTC does have a satellite office at SDSU. The main NROTC unit is based at University of San Diego, just across town. Some, but not all NROTC classes are held at SDSU. You should immediately contact the SDSU NROTC office or the USD NROTC staff and advise them of your interest as a SDSU student to be a college programmer.

Good luck.

I had a quick question about being a college programmer. Realistically, I doubt that I will be boarded a MO NROTC contract. I have a shot at the AROTC scholarship, but I have doubts about accepting that one as I really have my heart set on the Corps. My question is: do high school grades come into play when applying for sideloads and other commissioning sources as an MO mid already in college. I could not figure out any other way that one could be judged during the first semester of college (before any grades have been calculated) other than high school grades and the SAT/ACT. How much do your high school grades make a difference?

You cannot apply for an NROTC scholarship during your first semester . The first time you can apply is the second semester of your freshman year. I don't recall if high school grades are included or not. I'll check with DS when I see him Friday. I doubt the high school grades, if included, make too much of a difference. I expect your college grades will carry a bit more weight but that is just surmise on my part.

That is what i was hoping for. In my own thoughts, I could not surmise how someone who had already been denied a scholarship based on high school could then be offered one just because they are now in college, so what you said makes strong sense.

Keep in mind I believe the Navy allows you to reapply for the 4 year high school scholarship during your freshman year (a recent change). That would still include high school grades. The results, in part, always depend on your competition.

I do not know how important your HS grades will be. What will carry a lot of weight will be the impression you make on the officers at your unit. They will rank you according to your peers. Be confident, dedicated, driven to become a leader of Marines. Show up early for PT,etc.

Kinnem, shame on you! The Marine Corp is also the ladies' dept. :p
