Hey all, I was curious. I just finished my CFA for USAFA. Here are my scores:
BB Throw: 54ft
Shuttle Run: 8.8sec
Pull-ups: 11
Sit-ups: 80
Push-ups: 67
Mile: 8:28
My mile is low because I just ran the Marine Corps PFT yesterday as part of the NROTC scholarship. Anywho, are these competitive scores? If not, will I be able to retest?

Here's the short answer: Don't turn them in cuz you want to do as best as you can. AFA does not retake CFA unless special case

I agree with Jest. Only USAFA can reopen the CFA. It is not a given that they will.

The run and the BBall is low imho. If my memory serves me correctly the max BBall is 100, and avg is 70 for guys. Max for run is 5:30-45 ish. You need to shave off about a minute at least on the run.
~ That run would be a bust in ADAF. Yes, you still take the PT in the AF. I believe that a bust for young guys would be @7:30 min. mile. I think it is 11:30 for 1 1/2 miles. At your rate you would be hitting the allowable time for women doing the 1 1/2 mile PT.

The bball throw could be slightly better as well as the mile run. I wouldn't submit them just yet. Wait a week, do it again and submit one of the sets with the best scores. You might have more energy or do better. If your scores aren't good enough for USAFA and you submit them, they might give you one more chance to re do it.

That is not true. They do offer a second chance, but typically only to candidates that they think are strong applicants.
In my 7 years I have only seen 1 candidate that got to take it a third time. That poster was a principal nom. Traditionally there are 1 or 2 posters here every year that USAFA contacts directly and asks them to retake the CFA.
~ Once submitted that portion of your portal is closed. USAFA has to agree to reopen it. I know it is common for USMA, but not so much for USAFA.

USAFA impo is more concerned about the CFA overall than their sister SAs because they know the altitude will impact the cadets upon arrival.
~ I am not saying that they award more points for the CFA.

You wanna have competitive scores? Strive for max. Don't submit your scores unless you know you've done your absolute best

Yes well my very first time I did the CFA (the scores were horrible) and I inputed those scores, they opened it for me to retake it automatically and I was far from the best of the best or top competitors ( I even struggled to get my portal open until I got my ACTS scores just this September) Which is why I encouraged him to take it again without submission of any scores and do better on the mile run and bball throw. I meant to say they might open it again but not that it was guaranteed.

There are a couple YouTube videos that teach you an effective technique for the basketball throw. I would suggest working on/trying those because the 54' needs to be improved to make you more competitive, imho.

Spoiler alert: they didn't weight them in decision making for 2019. Still little bitter about that. That doesn't mean they won't weight them for your class though.

+1 for JestFutureFalcon. Make sure your scores are as good as they can get before you turn them in. IMHO, banking on a second chance is kind of like shooting wildly at an enemy aircraft and hoping he keeps flying straight and level until you can take another shot.

Varsity (don't want to call you NARP :D), I heard that too, but I'm pretty sure they still looked for significant sports involvement. I am guessing there's a good chance Admissions will consider CFA's for 2020. In short, it's never safe to count out a portion of the application. Just my $0.02019. :shake:
