When are LOEs sent?

Can someone please tell me when LOEs are sent? My DS's application is compete with the exception of the CFA. He attended SLE (and NASS) and is very excited about the potential of doing an overnight visit. He needs an LOE before he can schedule an overnight visit; is that correct? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
 
I'm in the Southeast region and I received one last Monday. I'm not sure if it works by region, but an ALO told me that my Regional Commander had not sent any out prior to last week.

The LOE offered me an overnight visit.
 
LOE's are not guaranteed for anyone - completing an application, attending SLE , getting a nomination, etc don't equate to getting an LOE. The RC has to make a determination of is this candidate THE most likely to win the vacancy for the district or secure a national spot. If your DS does not have a LOE it could be just a matter of timing/RC priorities OR it could be an indication that your DS needs to up his game to improve his file before the deadline.

Thanks so much for your response! So the RC determines who receives an LOE? And that determination is relative to other candidates in the region? That's good information as I had never heard that before. I had assumed they were issued from WP Admissions and were more of an informal, "you're looking good to us so keep working hard and you might have a chance."
 
DS never got a LOE, but was offered an appointment in the first wave last year. He did his overnight visit after receiving the appointment in January. He had previously received a LOA and an appointment to USNA. His overnight visit helped him decide which to choose.

If your DS attended SLE, what does he hope to learn on an additional overnight visit? Just curious.... My DS also attended SLE in 2013, then received an LOE in the Fall, but because of the distance & cost and just having spent a week at WP, he didn't feel it was necessary for another trip to make a decision.

Thanks for your message! My DS loves any opportunity to spend time on campus. Additionally, I assume that an LOE is a encouraging sign.
 
I received my LOE in mid-late September and a nomination this weekend. Just got a "qualified" letter so now I guess I wait!
