What are the standards for hearing in terms of Db and Hz? I am going to my physical today knowing full well my hearing is not the sharpest. I went to a specialist 3 years ago they determined I had normal hearing at (10db) 250 hz and it sloped to 30 Db at 1000 Hz. These numbers are old but Im just trying to get a game plan together to speed up a possible DQ. What are the chances of waiving hearing? Also loss is due to hunting and years of playing the drums...

"Both ears must be free of tympanic membrane perforation and acute and chronic disease. The average hearing loss at 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz in either ear may not exceed 30 decibels (ISO), and the loss at any one of these three frequencies may not exceed 35 decibels. The maximum acceptable loss in either ear at 3000 Hz is 45 decibels and, at 4000 Hz, 55 decibels."

Surgery was performed on my daughter's ear 2 years ago to bring her hearing up to at least the minimal level (passing) and she then received a waiver for the "history of" surgery. Good luck.

Now that I've been at this for a while, I "usually" log in late at night and several times throughout the weekend. I just got my audiogram/physical done this morning. I need to double check the numbers but I belive it looked like 500hz=20Db 1000hz=30Db 2000hz=35Db. The average with those numbers is 28.33 which is passing. Then at 3000hz=40Db and 4000hz=45Db.

The decibal readings were all rounded to 5 units for some reason. Dont quote me quite yet cause I need to confirm these numbers. Although assuming those numbers are corerect I would pass!!

If I do fail how far reaching can a hearing waiver go?
 
Rounding to the nearest "5" is the standard thing to do on these tests. You look good, but you will hear from DoDMERB if there is a problem. And you should always deal with Mr. Mullen. He is the absolute best contact you can have on any medical questions.
 
I sent him an email and hopefully will hear back from him tonight. I have 20 minutes before I can go get a copy of my audiogram taken this morning. Crossing my fingers but Im still wandering if I miss the standard by 5 dbs somewhere how hard getting a waiver for it will be...everything else checked out healthy.

he does emails late.. I have gotten them from Mr Mullen around 11pm or so Pacific time.... ha I even talked to him that time of night! he is always working!!! :thumb:
 
Unfortunatley, I went back and got my true results and they were slightly worse than what I previously thought and therefore, according to the standard I will get the ominous DQ. Here are the numbers:

500hz= 20 Right ear, 25 Left
1000= 35 Right ear, 35 Left
2000= 40 Right ear, 40 Left
3000= 40 Right ear, 45 Left
4000= 40 Right ear, 35 Left
(passing requires an average of no more than 30 for 500, 1000, and 2000hz. none of those can exceed 35. Also, no worse than 45db at 3000hz and 55db at 4000hz.)
 
A phone call and a number of emails have ensued. Buckeyeperc08 now knows the course of action that needs to be followed:thumb:
