Just indicate on the poll if you are a male or female student at an academy or ROTC program.

Or, if you're a parent, indicate which choice applies to you.

In the past these types of surveys have tended to not go well. Some try to flaunt their 'credentials' on this forum as a way to convince others that their opinions are more valid than others or that others aren't allowed to express different points of view. I am not sure what you are hoping to determine with this type of survey, but you probably won't get many replies.

You are overanalyzing. Just wondering how many cadets/mid were participating. Sometimes we assume info is coming from one source when actually it is coming from another.

Just curious, as I certainly have no impressive credentials to declare.

Frenzy, frenzy frenzy. I don't consider them impressive. They are what they are.

You continue to amaze me with your hubris.

You left out a few other categories such as parent of an SA candidate, male SA candidate, and female SA candidate as well. Curious.

Parent of a male SA candidate, Parent of a female SA candidate, troll, middle school student, current enlisted....

Good grief! Did I open a can of worms? Certainly did not mean to do so! You know what Abe Lincoln said,

"You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.

My original intent was simply to see if female mids/cadets and their parents were participating at a rate equal to their male counterparts. Just curious... my hunch was yes, and the results appear to verify. The percentage is probably about equal to enrollment. Too small a sample to make any real conclusions.

A category for trolls would have been funny.

No. Trolls are probably way down on the Left side of the Bell Curve.. Abraham Lincoln also said "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt".

Well, so far it looks like 6 out of 41 responders are either currently enrolled or were enrolled at a service academy. That's slightly less than15%.

If that is similar to the makeup of the forums, it shows that about 1 in 7 of our members actually have first hand experience at an academy... and that is the best kind of experience.

It is said that knowledge is power. I don't see any harm to a survey like this. Is it definitive? No. Is it enlightening? I think so.

No harm in asking, was there?

Your analysis is incomplete without all the data. If only 6 out of 41 attend or have attended, what is the make up of the other 35? And, I am not surprised by those results as this forum attracts people who are searching for answers about how to get into an academy, not necessarily those that are already in. Thank goodness, those few that have been or are now attending are here to help those of us who have questions.

Your initial implication was that more parents are using the forum than actual candidates or cadets, and you are most likely correct. Even so, those parents have much experience and can still be of great value to those of us that are just beginning our journey with our own candidate children.

It might also be worth noting that this thread was pasted in the Service Academy Parents section of the forum. If you made a poll in the USMA forum that asked what service academy members currently attend/graduated from, USAFA probably wouldn't have the most votes.

Personally, I am less interested in the 'credentials' of the posters as compared to those whose contributions to the forum provide insight and are of value to the participants. I assume there are many who simply read the posts and never bother to join to actually post information.

What in the world are you talking about?

You put a poll asking people if they are parents in the Service Academy parents section which probably skewed the results. What group of members is probably most likely to check the Service Academy parents part of the forum? Parents. So which group of members is probably most likely to see this poll and vote? Parents. A cadet is less likely to check the Service Academy parents section of the forum than a parent meaning a cadet is less likely to see this poll and vote than a parent. This probably skewed the results.

If you went to the USMA forum and made a poll that asked, "Which school is better, USMA or USNA?" USMA would probably win because in all likelihood more people that like USMA check the USMA forum than people that like USNA.

In other words, the results of the poll probably do not accurately reflect the forum and there is probably a higher cadet to parent ratio on here than your poll would lead one to believe.

Frenzy is absolutely right. The poll was entered into the "Service Academy Parents" forum, so naturally more parents would visit that forum versus any of the other SA forums listed on the Home page.
