recalculated gpa?

I don't know exactly how they recalculate the GPA. I do know, however, that my reported GPA was a 3.8 and my recalculated GPA is a 3.7. Not sure how they get it.

I believe they take into account the overall difficulty of your high school and the difficulty of your classes. For example, if you go to a private school, odds are that your refigured gpa will be better than it would have had you gone to a public school (assuming you took the same classes). Also, if you took lots of honors/ap classes, your refigured gpa will likely be higher than your reported gpa. My reported gpa was 3.5ish and my refigured gpa is a 3.93.

They didn't reconfigure mine. I have a 4.0. Our school is incredibly easy and does not weight grades. I think there are still 12 or so valedictorians tied right now. Every year we have more than 8 valedictorians.

Anyway, there is no way to tell how difficult your school is. AP/Honors gives them a way to look at it since it has to be taught the same way. Our school doesn't offer either, but I took many dual credit classes that would make me a sophomore at any public school if I would've chose to go there.

I believe I'm taking hard classes but I'm also in band. does that drop my gpa?

Some of my other friends in other schools have honors chemistry and stuff, but my school does not have a choice. how am I suppose to compete with other students with more honor courses?

I don't think band affects your GPA. Plenty of smart kids at my school are in band and have very high GPAs. I called my counselor today (to find out he had taken a vacation) and talked to the person in charge of his applicants. I asked her what the deal was, because they still hadn't changed my reported GPA of a 4.12 and she told me that they must have gotten the same thing after calculating it. They use the weighted method, she said. And AP and Honors classes help you boost it drastically. Anyone that tells you that getting straight As in regular classes is better- is wrong. Aim to take the highest classes you school offers. Even if that class may not be "AP" or..."honors" but that sounds really weird to me that a school doesn't...

if this helps.....

my high school listed GPA is a 3.75, and my reconfigured is 4.0. I have taken 12 AP classes and made 9 Bs- that's what the admissions board worked with. maybe there is a secret formula.

I have a 3.85 unweighted GPA, 4.10 weighted GPA. AFA has calculated it as a 4.0. That is with mostly AP and honors courses.

lol the way they calculate their gpa is completely confidential.

do you think they count an A-,A,and A+ just as a regular A(4.0)?

thats how my school does it.

Mine also was not reconfigured... The GPA on my transcript appears exactly the same way on my status page. My school does weigh AP classes though (4.6-A, 3.5-B, 2.4-C, 1.0-D). Also there is no "A-" or "A" or "A+". Just "A", "B", "C", "D". My school is ridiculously bad/easy and many of the students have... ummm... lets call it "limited scholastic ability." (Less than 50% graduate ON TIME), so I'm gonna agree with CadCandMateus and assume its confidential :thumb:

My recalculated gpa is actually lower than the gpa on my transcript....

maybe when we're cleared for confidential and top secret, then we will get to know the almighty usafa admissions gpa secret.

Son also has not had his GPA recalculated even with several AP and honors classes. Also, counselor said that they weren't going to update his record with seventh semester GPA even with 4.0 for the semester....stated it won't make a difference.

well my reported gpa at my school was a 4.0. but the one on the USAFA website says i have a 4.12, i think. but it is definitely higher. My school does weigh AP classes and i have only taken 4, but i do attend a catholic private school so that could make a difference???

Not even then! Only a couple crusty old Colonels know that are on the boards here!

My son also attends a private, Catholic high school...GPA still reads as it was as a Junior and the counselor was rather rude to his mother!!
