For USNA he will have a relevant composite of 32 (average of the M 33 and E 30, and at least with ACT, they round the 31.5 up to 32) because only math and English count. Very nice score. Thanks for the information. My DS received a 33 on both the Math and Science sections and a 30 on English. Unfortunately his Reading and Writing were not up to that level. His composite is 30. This was his first time taking. He is concerned about his scores for USNA.
USNA posts ACT statistics for each class. So they calculate something at least comparable to a composite. I am certainly not positive, but I imagine it uses only the math and English scores since those are the only scores it takes. Thus, whether we call it a composite, or an average, it is what it is.Let's not post information as facts, unless you are sure you know, as it could cause confusion for candidates/perspective candidates. USNA doesn't "re-calculate" a composite ACT score...all they look at is the English and Math...there is no re-calculation that would be the ceiling of the best (English + Math) / 2. In other words, USNA doesn't care about the composite score period.
I looked, and can not find ACT statistics in the class profile, so I stand corrected. I do know, from visiting USNA with my son, and speaking to admissions officers and staff, that they do take the ACT, and consider only math and English. Indeed, I was told they consider those scores "together equally". I used the term " composite " to describe an average of the two scores and was not corrected. Those are facts, but worth only the value anyone whishes to give, as is the case on forums like this; but you are right, I was perhaps careless in my word choice. Can you please post the link? I don't see that information in the last two class profiles (in fact, only SAT scores are listed).
