I heard Obama is trying to stop production of the Raptor..

Anyone else hear about this?

I actually sat through a briefing about the f22 last week in my ROTC class. We had an engineer who worked on the f22 come talk to us. He said that there are only 185 f22s and that congress has to vote on building more. There is a new version of the f16 and of course the f35. Those are much cheaper than the f22. As far as Obama goes, it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't want anymore.

There's a whole discussion about this in the academy/military news forum (nobody really talks about it anymore, but you can read through the views). This was a heated debate among cadets, candidates, appointees, retirees, moms, dads, republicans, democrats, etc.

Hah, in my econ class, we had to pretend we became president and had to come out with a balanced or surplus yearly budget by the end of our 2nd term. I cut almost everything the constitution doesn't give specifically to the fed, but actually raised procurement funding. We had to explain our rationale in a "state of the union" page, I basically said BUY MORE RAPTORS!!

8 hour project from 1730 to 0330!

didnt he have to decide by yesterday? i havent heard anything "official", so anyone with news, comment

i heard from various sources that now the budget won't come out to the end of march or more likely beginning of april, buying him more time to decide i guess along with everything else that's going on. TIME had an article my government teacher showed us from a week or so ago about Gates wanting to cut a whole bunch of new military technology like the 22, the new navy carriers, and the army's new global fighting system, i forget the name at the moment. but i really don't know which way this one will go. It could go either way as of right now.

seems a little odd that nearly every Gov. agency is getting more money but DoD is supposed to take a 10% cut.

Well that is the society we live in. A lot of people in this nation have become obsessed with things that they believe they "have a right to." Therefore since they have that "right" the government has to provide it for them even if said person has done little or no work to deserve it. It is extremely apparent that the government has become more concerned on winning the voter's popularity competition, especially after the extremely low approval ratings of the Bush administration. Just look at some of the corporations and special interest groups that are getting funding from the recent stimulus package.

I hope that they do not cut production on the F-22's. We need them a lot more than paying for some fat cat CEO's bonus.

Well, Raptors are much more expensive than many other planes we have, so it does make some sense. On the other hand, they are virtually indestructable, so investing in more of them will mean that our AF is basically unkillable...

Does that mean the HUD photo I have of a Raptor totally schwacked by 20mm really means he would have outflown the rounds?

They're not unbeatable...just VERY capable.

It wouldn't have to! Just make sure it transforms out of plane mode and shoot with it's lasers, then transform back and fly away!:yllol:
