New member here! I recently found out that I have received a waiver and am physically and academically qualified with a pres. Nom. Is this waiver a good sign and could an appointment be near? I come from a very competitive district. Also, I have not received an LOA or even an LOE.. Happy Thanksgiving and best of luck to all candidates.

It's great that you received a waiver, but no one can tell whether or not you will get an appointment. I trust you applied for all your MOC nominations and you are working on your plans B, C, and D. Good luck to and Happy Thanksgiving back to you.

Most acceptances won't come out until mid to late January probably if it's like years past

Try to be patient. It's hard. March, then April may come without a word... then one day BAM! You'll know.

Yes the waiver is a good sign, but not a guarantee of appointment. Hang in there. I know it is hard to wait.

This process is tough for a reason. I also have maxed almost everything on the CFA, have excellent LOR, and play sports+team captain. SAT is solid but could be higher. In a pool of such incredible candidates, I try not to get my hopes up. this process has been humbling!

The waiver is a good sign that whatever you had "wrong" was waived.

Make sure you continue with your Plans B & C.

Best of luck!

Does the USMA send out acceptance emails in addition to letters or do they just send the traditional acceptance letter and packet?

I just remember checking my profile one night at 12 and it was in one of the tabs saying "click here to accept your appointment" or something like that. Then it came in the mail a few days later. No email as far as I know but your liaison or nomination source might call you.

I know USMA no longer does rolling admissions, but do you remember what time of the year that was?

Notification goes as follows:
Admissions Committee votes to approve as the candidate filling a particular vacancy to be offered appointment.
Certificates generated and mailed.
MOC notified when mail goes out.
FFR notified around the 72 hour mark from mailing (which should be right before the mail gets there based on average delivery time).
Candidate portal updated to allow the candidate to accept the offer (which should be after mail arrives). The goal is to allow notification to the candidate in the following order - MOC, FFR, mail, portal.

Is the process any different if it is not an appointment to fill a MOC slot. If it is an appointment from the national waiting list, for example, and is presumably later in the year, is the candidate contacted more directly? And do you know, is the process the same for the other academies?

What will happen will look like this: USMA will post pics on their page of hundreds of BFEs about to be mailed out. Some of the recipients will get a phone call congratulating them, others will be surprised when the mail comes. A week or two later, a "second wave" will come out. After that, mostly dribs and drabs until the class is full. There might be a few getting appointments now (LOA and nom already in hand), but most will be end of January/first of Feb. It is a maddening process...but hopefully with a happy ending for you.

If Congressman X nominated you, and you are filling a national spot, Congressman X is still going to get notified first so they can let you know. If you win a national spot without receiving any MOC nomination (ie. Service Connected only which is rare for anyone gaining direct admission), then it will be up to the later three notification means (FFR or Commander, Mail, Portal) at the same time delay.

Other academy processes do not matter as they are inherently inferior to West Point in all aspecto - Go Army! Beat Navy!

Another question: if a congressman has submitted all of his/her nominations for a slot, will the Academy determine right now who will be offered the appointment to fill that slot, assuming all of the nominee's applications are complete, or will the Academy wait until some period of time to let all of the candidates supliment their applications before making a determination as to who will be offered an appointment to fill that MOC slot? And if so, do you know when that is?

Nice final touch. Lol.

If you only have a Presidential nomination, you will only competing in the Presidential category, not your Congressional district. So unless you get a nomination from your MOC, the competitiveness of the your Congressional district doesn't matter. The Presidential category is a national pool, so it tends to be more competitive than most Congressional districts.

Mid to late January was the first round of appointments. Then it seemed like every month after another round would come out.
