The Naval Academy is my dream school. It's the right college for me because I've always liked the navy and I can get my education. I'm so worried I won't be competitive to get in. I'm currently in 11 grade. I took my first sat in November and scored a 1300 overall. I was so upset because I thought I did better then that. Right now I have a 3.5 gpa but not in any advance placement classes. I am also in wrestling right now. When I'm not wrestling I don't have time to do many extracurricular activities because I have to watch my sister once school is over. I've also had a job working at a deli for the last two years. Any advice?

Definitely keep working on the SATs as well as the ACT. The sooner you get good scores or ones that are great the easier It will be when you're doing the application next year. Try an earn some leadership positions in sports or clubs. boys state if possible, NHS, team captain etc. Also, you really should try and get some AP classes on your transcript because the academy likes to see that you are challenging yourself. If you're in your half way through your junior year it might be hard but A 3.0 gpa with APs will look better than a 3.5 with no difficult classes. The job part is great and can be used to your advantage. Have you lettered in wrestling? Just get some more extracurriculars/ leadership in and some challenging classes.

Thanks for answering you been really helpful. This is my third letter in wrestling and next year it will be my fourth. I'm pretty sure it's to late for me to get into any ap classes but do you think I can get it done if I get a good sat or act? What if I do much better on the act then sat will they look at the act instead?

The best you can do is to try your hardest; you can't change the past. USNA will look at your highest scores from the SAT and/or ACT. Make sure your BGO knows of any hardships that prevent you from reaching your potential. It sounds like you might have some family obligations that impact what you can do -- you do not need to explain it on the board, but if they truly do impact what you can do and are of legitimate reasons (such as to support your family), those are taken into consideration -- again make sure your BGO is made aware of this when they interview you.

The SAT and ACT are equally weighted so find one that you'll do better on ( most do better on the ACT) and keep taking it. And it's good you have letters in wrestling, try to get team captain status or some accolades like all state first team or all academic first team. The admissions part is unpredictable and you'd be amazed at some people that get through. You'll never know your chances until you apply because anything can happen. Until then get good grades, get your test scores higher, apply to NASS, and try to stay well rounded.

You have 0% chance of an appointment if you don't apply.

I would suggest you also investigate NROTC, and apply for their scholarship.
~ Most SA candidates will apply for ROTC scholarships as their plan B.
