Is there anyone out there that has heard anything from Tennessee Nominations?

My DD sent an email to update her packet based on a recent award. Corker's office responsed that they would update her file, but the committee met last week (Dec 8) and has made their recommendations to Corker.

As Corker's staff coordinates with Alexander's, it appears the 'list' has been created for both Senators.

It appears that historically, they don't notify the nominees until mid to late January (there is a thread referencing last year's notifications)

Our candidate has an LOA, is being recruited for 2 sports, all but maxed the CFA. Yet we still sweat it until the nomination actually comes.

No clue if/when the congressmen/women release their lists.

If you are 3 q'ed and have a nomination are your chances good to get it USNA or USAFA?

Congrats on the LOA! DS is not recruited, but has a pretty strong record - at least stronger than mine was way back! I had heard that congressmen/women release in mid-December. Its been a month for us since the last interview so we'll see...

I am a USAFA grad - no way I would even be considered today based on the package I submitted a long time ago.

It appears some districts announce early, but our Congressman seems to be a January guy. Just the limited threads I have found, the Senators seem to mail out their nominations in the third week of January. This is very limited data points and not necessarily valid. I hope I am wrong and we know one way or the other soon.

I'm with you! As you probably guessed I was USNA. And I think there is no way I get in nowadays. It has gotten so much more competitive since the late 80's. DS is shooting for Navy. Yours looking at AF? I believe Corker's office told us late December or early Jan.

It means you are a stud and still in the game. Whatever happens from here on out simply depends on the pool you are competing against and it is very unlikely that anyone in the pool is 'weak'.

It's a numbers game and the formula isn't perfect.

You are seeking entrance into one of the most competitive institutions in the world. It's not all about grades and test scores, athletics, or leadership, it's about doing well in all 3 and hoping that the folks reviewing your file are impressed. (Frankly, they will be impressed and I am sure the hardest thing they do is send the TWE because they are telling an incredible individual (at least on paper) they were below the line.

There probably isn't much you can do at this point but wait and see.

Best of luck to you.

DS is looking at USNA. Didn't want to be too closely associated with her Dad I guess. Plus, she has been around more Navy families than USAF and has been very impressed with her classmates parents.

We were at USNA in November. The Dean of Math Dept was talking about the numbers the candidates put up and talking to other families - very impressive. I tried to explain to my daughter it's like living with the characters from the Big Bang Theory (from a smarts perspective) except they are also athletic with leadership skills (plus as a general rule high character). Have also told her if Tennessee has 30 more competitive candidates, then be prepared to congratulate them and move on to Plan B.

Yep, you are right on target. You just never know who you are competing against. Like you said in the other post, you can be a stud, but a little bit less of a stud and get the TWE. Hopefully both of ours can make it in and be a part of the Tennessee crew. I know when I was there, I made a point to meet others from Tennessee. Made some great friends that way.

One thing that has impressed my DS is the camaraderie she sees with military people in general and specifically when she meets my classmates or USNA grads and sees how we interact. Let me know how your DS does and if things go well, maybe they can get introduced before Induction Day. It is more stressful on the parents as we can't do anything and we probably understand how strong the pool is more so than our DS'.

Good deal. That would be great if it works out that way. I agree, its more stressful on us and we do know more than the average joe of what's going on. But I would love to meet up if all goes well. Enjoyed chatting. Good luck to you guys too!

does anyone know if you get an LOA, does the SA let the congressman/senators know or should i contact them myself?

The SA should inform your nomination sources. However, it is unwise to depend on the bureaucracy to carry the day.

Send the nominating sources' coordinators an email to update your file.

If nothing else it re-enforces to the source that you are a strong candidate.

Congratulations on the LOA

For those keeping watch on this thread, it appears that it will likely be mid-January before any hear. All congressional offices are working with the senators to "spread the wealth" as much as possible.

Thanks!

Last year they didn't come out until the nomination deadline or a little bit earlier. They take a while to make sure the nominations are set up to allow the most TN applicants into the academies that they can.
