NROTC Nurse Option

Hello everyone,

I was under the impression that the process for review boards and getting notified for a scholarship for the Nurse Option went through the same process as other NROTC choices, but looking the forums it seems that it is quite different. Would anyone care to explain how different the NROTC Nurse Option review boards, difficulty of getting scholarship and notification is versus the other tiers?

It's essentially the same process except that it's decided by one or two separate boards composed primarily of nurses. Notification is the same as the other tiers except it doesn't occur at the same time due to the separate boards. Not sure how difficult it is to get a nursing scholarship at this time. I know that 2 or 3 years ago they were giving no nursing scholarships or at best a mere handful. Again, no idea what numbers they are looking for at the present time.
 
Have you given any thought to applying for an Army or AF ROTC Nurse scholarship? Two years ago when I went through the process NROTC Nurse was only giving a very very small amount of scholarships and nurse option college-programmers were not getting advanced standing in the unit.

When I went in for my interview I was told they were only awarding about 12 scholarships for nursing
 
Last couple of years Navy nurse scholarships have been limited. The year my DD applied there were 16 awarded. I had heard that close to 800 applied. She didn't get it first time around so she enrolled as a college programmer and was awarded one in April of Freshman year. Also, be aware that Advanced Standing has not been an option for nurses the past couple years.
 
Since there are only two boards when will the next one be announcing?
 
That's a big secret. No onereay knows when Navy. boards occur, especially for nursing.
