Ok so after looking at a couple of threads I became curious about going from enlisted to the naval academy prep school. I'm still going to apply to the naval academy while in high school. The thing is though if I don't make it I have two options. I could either try to apply again in college or go enlist in the navy and apply through that. Does anybody know which my be more liable. Some insight on this would great.

I'm a junior
Apply this month (January) for Summer Seminar. Take the SAT and/or the ACT as often as you can during the next year. Focus yourself on strong academics, sports and especially leadership.

The Summer Seminar application is also the preliminary application for USNA, and if they find you interesting then sometime in the spring they will notify you that you are an Official Candidate. Take these next few months (before the craziness begins!), to research all your options for plans if you're not offered an appointment.

Good luck to you!

Exactly what she said ^^^^^^^

Only thing I'd add is that I'd recommend applying to more than just NA for Summer Seminar. Even if you attend only 1 of them, it looks good for all of them. I'd apply to as many as you can afford.

DS went to AF and NA knowing he wanted the AF. After arriving home from AF, getting a few hours of sleep, then going to NA he came home wanting to go to NA.

My point obviously is attend at least 2 if you can, 3 is even better. You may think you want NA now, but after a few Summer Seminars you just may change your mind also. I know it's expensive, but even if you don't later make it to a SA, you can at least know you had this great experience.

Good luck and outwork everyone else out there. You really have to have a take no prisoners attitude and work harder than everyone else in your class.

Just read NASS application opens 13 Jan at 1300 EST. Good Luck! DS candidate for class2020! Wish I had known about these forums when he was a freshman! You basically need to be a Renaissance Man or Woman! Be good at everything you do! SAT's, GPA, Leadership, Leadership, Leadership! Volunteering, Sports, Sports, Sports! Be a leader in everything! These won't guarantee an appointment it seems, but you'll have a happy life! Good Luck!
