I have an LOA and nomination (Recieved letter in mail from MOC on Dec. 14) but it has not appeared on the portal yet. should I be concerned at this point?

Nah, no worries. Sometimes, it takes a while for the office to process the nominations. I received my nominations a week before Christmas and I just saw it show up on my portal today. West Point is pretty slow at processing haha.

BLUF: don't worry at this point

Before the online application, all a MOC had to worry about was sending in their nomination slate to the academy before the 31st of January no matter when they actually made their decision and notified the candidate. Now, the candidate can see if they've done the work which invariably stresses the candidate, the congressional office, and admissions as candidates chase details through the system.

While the MOC sends you a fancy letter informing you of their choice (which the actual MOC may or may not have ever seen), that same staffer separately has to prepare forms to be sent digitally through a similar system to your application portal that they might only get on this one time of year (depends on how that particular office manages SA process). Everyone here realizes how important those nominations are, but compared to x number of pressing issues that might affect thousands of constituents in those precious few days before Christmas or right after New Years, where do you think filling out those few forms for a few individuals on a system that they rarely use and aren't due for several weeks rates in the priority of their time...perspective.

When the forms arrive, they'll post to your portal. If you are that good of a candidate and the RC doesn't see a nom come in when those arrive, they will ask you about it. Very rarely does a congressional rep leave someone off their slate when they send it in, and it usually is fixed within a couple of days. If the end of January rolls around and there is still nothing, then you might want to follow up with either WP or your MOC.

As stated above, don't worry!! It took several days for my Congressional Nomination to upload onto my USMA profile, but it may take longer due to USMA currently being busy sending out Offers of Admissions. May I ask when you received your LOA?

BeatNavy2020,

Nope. LOA+Nomination= Appointment. Just wait. Let's say your nomination pops up on Jan 31. It's just a matter of time.

I have not received a LOA or an LOE. I just recently finished the application and had to give them my newest ACT score (this past December) and had to wait for my registrar to send them my 6th semester college transcripts. I got a call yesterday asking me for a copy of my social security card and birth certificate. Is this a good sign? Do they require this of every applicant?

Delilah, I uploaded mine from the very beginning I started my application. I think it is to verify social security and to check if you are an US citizen. Also, I think Admissions are very busy reading files for the first wave of offers.

Laxmom and DP thanks for the input. Trying not to be patient but the suspense is tangible!

I notice that my sons portal indicates a green check for a nomination, but he has not gotten a letter indicating that he has a nomination. I don't want to be overly optimistic, but I think that letters of nominations MAY be sent to the Academy before some get letters. Anyone else have this happen?

DS found out about the nominations through the portals - letter came a week later
